What's the craziest thing someone said to you about one of your knives?

People watching me sharpen a knife for a friend -

"you have an intense look on your face."

Hell yeah I did!

I guess on most occasions I just get odd looks by people who don't know me or know me well. Very recently when I started to carry the Izula as my EDC I was showing friends here and there the knife and every single one that I showed would grab it by the blade and make the throwing motion while saying "this is such a nice throwing knife, can I throw it?" This is the point when I would grab their wrist and tell them I'm going to break it if they throw it. I don't understand, everyone wanted to throw the Izula. The funny thing is, not a single one of them can throw a knife in the first place!

not really a statement but my non-knife friends seemed to like my cheaper s&w tacti-lol folders over my nice kershaws, spydercos etc. if only they knew. i did sell the two i had to one of them though...non knife people are amazed by them:D.

eh...you could do a heck of a lot worse than S&W knives...

A convenient store clerk asked my GF if she was going to rob him because she pulled out her Spyderco Bug to open a package. He was serious. If he saw my 950 Rift in my pocket he prolly would have already been putting money in a brown paper bag.

That's a pretty legit question, actually.

Yeah seriously. I'm not sure I would do that even if I was done with college and had a real job...
But I'm sure it's a nice blade, and if it gives you satisfaction then nothing else matters I suppose

A guy says to me , " I don't need a sharpening stone.... I just sharpen my knives on the sidewalk . "

I say to him , " Do you think that get's it sharp enough ?"

He says ," You don't want too sharp a knife....it's dangerous ! "

I try to explain to him that a sharp knife is a safer knife , as it has less chance of slipping off of what you are cutting , and you have more control.

He says ," I've slipped a lot of times with this knife, and haven't cut myself yet."

:foot:

"Who are you gonna kill with that?"

Said by someone upon seeing me using the small blade on my Victorinox Recruit.

What a lot of saps.

I get this too. The common responses are "I live eleven floors above a convenient sidewalk" and (to the "sharp is dangerous" stuff) "Only if you're clumsy."

I don't have anything exceptionally strange...but have had a lot of the "who are you going to kill with that" "and y do you need a knife? " y do nkp always think your going to kill people wen you have a knife lol. They must watch to much tv.

I have come to dislike this "a sharper knife is a safer knife" thing, it's only true for certain level of sharpness so it is not worth its status as a mantra. A truly dull knife can't possibly be more dangerous than a hair-splitting sharp one.

I keep a couple of EDC knives sharp enough to split hanging hair, but I'm under no illusion that such sharpness makes them inherently safer. I've carried knives all my life, so all the dos and don'ts are second nature to me, so those knives are safe for me. But, I'm generally a methodical and meticulous person. I know klutzy people that I would never, ever, trust with these knives. If they can get by with knives that can hardly push cut paper, then they should stay there for their own safety. These people are not necessarily stupid, they're just naturally clumsy. If they're smart they know they can't trust themselves with a super sharp knife.

I'm just thankful that they still carry a knife. That makes them one of us.
