I'm not really sure just when the first sheaths were replaced with the second design. The clip art in Schrade and jobber catalogs was notoriously reused after changes were made. Dates of engineering change orders are hard to determine unless someone comes across an in-plant memo discussing them. Here is the second design, retaining strap moved to the handle, genuine split cowhide sheath, rivets (eyelets) added to protect the still retained laces, in-sheath protector deleted.

Thanks for the pic Codger. I've certainly noticed the art in the catalogs doesn't represent design changes accurately such as 3 versus 4 pins in the LB7. The catalog showed 4 pins and was not changed until 1991(!) long after the knife handle changed.

We note the same inconsistancies with the 165OT and the 152OT (and quite a few folders) in company and jobber catalog artwork. The flyers and most magazine ads (particularly intoduction announcements) were a bit more up to date on design changes, but not always. That could have to do with lead time for printing or, more likely, because the graphic artists and their bosses just were not knife knuts, so details didn't matter. They just reached in a folder and pulled out clip art sent to them by Schrade. If the pattern number matched, they used it.

Hi There JOP91 -- Welcome to the forum

Sweet Old Timer 12OT - A beauty, I believe with the Carbon Steel.
Keep it clean and it will serve you well for a long time.
If it's already become too dear to you for every day use, you can certainly find another for a reasonable price.

Also, very well presented pictures - I look forward to seeing more!!

I just "won" a knife I've been after for a long while. It's the 85th Anniversary Whittler ( http://www.collectors-of-schrades-r.us/FLYERS/1990s/pages/SC90-42.htm ). Salesman's sample too which is always cool.

I paid real money for it because I haven't seen many up for sale and hey, burnt sambar stag and sterling silver gotta be worth what I paid ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&rt=nc&nma=true&item=150619464133&si=Kjop2N9b6DM4CpK7pMuke5QoVvc%253D&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT ) but mainly I just love the knife.

Does anyone know the MSRP and dealer cost for these in 1989? My guess is Schrade would want $250.00 to $300.00 MSRP even back then.

Thanks guys. I will scan it up proper when I get it. Cheers!

Dave, that's an awesome knife. I think you got a good deal. It's the only one i have ever seen so i think "rare" is a valid description.

Thanks for your comment Roland. I think I got a good deal too! I know you surf eBay as zealously as I do so when you say you haven't seen one before I take that seriously. Interesting how some limited editions of 1000 are seen often and others not so much. My guess is that these 85th Anniversary knives are "keepers" in just about anybodies book. I know I won't be selling mine!!!

I've seen it several times, but not usually with all the bling, and certainly not a SS engraving, but since it came from SMKW anything is possible. That is a good pattern to boot.

Dave, I don't know it's MSRP when it came out, but I think you did OK here. It looks very nice. ;)

Thanks for your comments Hal and Bruce. I can't wait to get the knife but between mail strikes and parcel forwarders it may be a while.

I will link another thread with some great pics including one of Eric's 85th Anniversary example. Hal, your Craftsman 9554 "stag wannabe" is pretty cool. Looks like the same basic pattern as the 85th Ann. knife though the grind is a bit different.

Hi Delamas2nd - CONGRATS!!

Handsome Stag on those Herman Williams lockbacks.

These were good looking knives with the original wood scales but now they're
something really special.

Can you show us a full family picture, please?

So you grabbed Homer lol I was watching that one too. I kept seeing Homer Simpson with his new LB8 in a lost episode. Nice knife. Kinda fun too.
