I can safely say I've never seen a "B" serial LB8 but that doesn't mean there isn't one out there. I will keep my eyes open for the serials when checking auctions.

I recently acquired a Schrade pull ball, I am new to the site and don't know very much about knives. The blade needs to be cleaned up, any suggestions on how to do so would be greatly appreciated

I've never seen a "B" serial LB8 either, but I have an "AW", which is awfully close.

Very interesting. Schrade seemed to get done with the single-alphas before doubles so an "AW" serial would imply there would be a whole alphabet full of serialized LB8s before hitting double alphas which doesn't seem to be the case. Could your "AW" serial LB8 be from a separate SFO serialization?

Any pics of the knife, Dave? I'd really like to check it out.

i love LB 7's and got this set in today. serial number on both is 009. one question did they come with sheaths in the original box? i would think so but this one did not have either one. oh, well both are in really good shape as is the box and papers.

They did indeed come with two sheaths originally and also a white cardboard box sleeve. I have three of the four sets but only one of mine is totally complete with sheaths, paperwork and box-sleeve.

Link to pics of sheaths: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...read-(144UH-and-staglon-LB-7)?highlight=dixie

I was watching this set while it was at auction and I think you did very well even without the sheaths. I was considering buying this set to actually use but I'm glad it's found a good home where it can lead 'the good life" unmolested.

delmas, if you really want the sheaths I would consider selling you a set. I really don't need all six because I will only display one set of sheaths and I'm not worrying about resale value because mine won't be sold. I'm not sure what would be a fair price but if you are interested I'm sure we could come up with something.

Cheers, D.

Dave, I do have a couple pics on my home computer. Will try to find them to post tomorrow.

OK, sorry, but false alarm on the LB8 serial number. it's NOT AW. It's A21821. I had looked at a reall crappy picture.

My "new" Schrade 18OT

Nice "Mighty Mite"!

Anyone know how they came up with the name for this pattern?

Alliteration rocks and all but what exactly is a "mite" other than a bug like a tick etc. I remember as a kid chuckling and wondering why Schrade named this knife the "Mighty Vermin" or "Mighty Insect-That-Bites-You". Never made sense to me but they stuck with it for 25 years so it must not have hurt sales.

Dave, "mite" is also a term used in children's sports. 25 years ago my son was in the "advanced" group of little ski racers. This advanced group were called the "Mighty Mites". so it just means something little.

Thanks roland. I guess the Mighty-Small-Thing does make sense but my first impression stuck and I will always remember this pattern with a purposefully ignorant smile lol

I've known too many farmers to whom the red spider mite is indeed the bane of their existence that all I can picture is the Mighty Bug webbing it's way through the fields, tiny Schrade in hand perhaps.

These arrived today......My collection is coming along slowly.:)

are the top two 8OT and 8OTY respectively?

Great lookers Steve.

I'm guessing Schrade Walden 880 and 881Y respectively. The 8OT was not KON-KAV etched or jigged, and the 8OTY did not have a matchstrike nick or a Schrade NY USA stamp. The 8OTY was made in 1990 and had a straight nick.

Good going on the matching red-bone set. That makes four that we've seen here on the forum I think, . . .mine, Hal's, BobW's and now yours. Good score!

Chuck
