Thanks for you comments on the stag NAHC LB9 guys. I can't wait to get it but it will likely be two weeks before I do.

I decided to treat myself to a super-fancy Schrade LB1 "Cub" custom by Brian Yellowhorse and am looking forward to receiving this one in about two weeks as well. This will be my first custom by any of the Yellowhorse clan and I do indeed like their style so I will be very proud to have this one. I thinks it's the nicest little Cub I've ever seen!

"Knife features inlays of Malichite and White Turquoise, with a nickel silver inlay of the Howling Wolf set in genuine Abalone. the bolsters are nickel silver with a mirror polished blade."

Woof! Just when you think Brian's embelishment work can't get any better.... Nice knife Dave! And such fine work on such a tiny knife too.

I'm ashamed to post a picture of my latest "get", a plain 'ol run of the milled liner Walden 897UH.

Dave --

Another Home Run!!
Abalone and Malachite -- Great combo
and, of course, the howling wolf.

But, I see a problem here.
With a wolf in the house, before you know it he'll be chewing on your nice cowhide table.

That's not good.
You better have this re-routed my way.
Then, well ........ um, the table will be saved.
It's really for the best. Trust me. ;)

CONGRATS!!

Thanks for the comments Michael, Hal and Howie. There is indeed a lot of fine work on this tiny blade and the choice of materials really works for me. Neck-knife perhaps? Not really my style but a friend is convinced I should wear it as such.

I like the "butter and molasses" too, Delmas! Hard to find them in nice condition but it looks like you snagged a good one. Cheers!

I stopped by last month to try and get some info on a weird little knife I had called a C641 and now look at me - posting a pic of my 'new' schrade...
I overpaid for this tiny little C628...but what the heck, now I can say I have a Schrade collection.

Stay tuned, more pics coming soon...I just scored a 'like new' SS627 for 17 bucks.

delmas2nd, I'm new to this forum and don't know my way around yet, but I noticed your post of the Shrade you called a butter and molasses 896. I have one that is almost identical, down to the pattern on the handle. My knife has the 896K on the off side of the main blade that is stamped Shrade Walden N.Y. U.S.A. This knife is real special to me as it had belonged to my dad who passed away over 30 years ago. I had purchased the knife for him as a gift from an FRM Feed store(Flint River Mills) in LA(lower Alabama-panhandle of Florida) in the mid 70's. He died August 20, 1979. Your pic was just special for at this time of the year. Sincerely Treefarmer

you are very welcome. Dad's are special that is for sure. the "butter and molasses" knife is my first one of that type. i have my Dad's knives as well and keep them in good shape.

Happy Friday! I just scored a mint Schrade GDOT Barlow and all the ephemera:

And an even happier Friday to you. :)
I like Barlow Knives, and I like Schrade knives made in The USA too. I think maybe I should dig out my Schrade Barlow and use it once in a while. ;)

Thanks tongueriver & Bruce. What I really want is the Schrade Heritage Barlow in red bone but I'm not willing to pay what they ask on eBay.

Bruce; do dig out that barlow and give it a workout.

Here are two twin brothers, Cutco English jacks. One of them was kind of a stay-at-home, and the other one took the bull by the horns. Does anybody have any spare blades in the jockey box of their pick-em-up truck?

Nice finds Calvin and Stelth! I haven't taken on the GDOT series yet and those old Cut Co are always great to see. Thanks for posting!

A few minutes ago I launched what I thought was too low a snipe of $41.00 on a MIB extra cool engraved LB7 with a "Y" alpha serial and all the correct bling. It seems this auction was a bit of a sleeper and I was very pleasantly surprised to get the knife for $39.08 which I think is less than it's worth just about any day of the week ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/300594271208?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 ). I've never seen a leaf pattern like this before and it's right to my taste!

I asked the seller this: Q."The story behind the knife is part of what makes collecting these so much fun. Do you have any extra info you could share as to where this knife came from and even perhaps who did the engraving?" and here's the answer:

A."This great old SCHRADE knife came to me as a result of a family member who had been a Buck knife dealer passing away. While selling the famed Buck knives he started to dabble in others such as Case, Anza, and Schrade knives. When he passed we had no idea what was left behind and began digging through boxes. This knife is one of the more unique finds resulting from our efforts.
As far as I know this is an original Schrade product and the engraving was done by the Schrade factory for a limited number of knives.
The knife had been in a safe for close to 30 years before it saw the light of day and was listed on Ebay.
Hope you derive substantial enjoyment from making this Schrade all your own."

If anybody wants to weigh-in as to whether or not you think it's Schrade factory engraving I'd love to hear your opinions!

I think you did quite well on the price. I cant say with any certainty one way or another on the originality of the engraving, but it looks like it could be original. I will say that the sheath looks to be a cut above the average generally found with an LB7 if that's any indication. ;)
