Here's a little bauble I just acquired. Genuine hand-done scrimshaw by the man himself, Giorgianni. I do NOT believe this is laser cut. It is a prototype (a real one this time?), bolster serialized 000. Also has all the bling, velvet-lined mahogany case, in a gold and chocolate colored nested 2 part pasteboard box, 3 page replica of the 1836 Peter Stuyvesant Park charter, corny John Parker Senior letter of authenticity, accordian folded use and care brochure, registration papers, a fitted card "Commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the Dedication of Peter Stuyvesant Park 1836-1986." I was surprised to see that neither the liners nor spring have been embellished by filework or milling (jimping).

yep turned tray around and does look much better that way. uh, what was in the rectangular opening? the paperwork? or?

This knife went 7 days with no bids. I suspected it might be a nice one. I could tell it was peachseed, and probably an 825 or 895. This was the only picture attached to the auction.

I made an offer, and came to a compromise. The knife ended up being an 825 "Westerner", probably from the mid 1950's. Nice red bone handles and a pinned shield. It has a sheepsfoot blade issue, and a stable crack on the middle pin, but pretty sure it will have a fair amount of pocket time.

Not sure if I've seen the three line stainless steel stamp before.

This was a pleasant surprise.

Well Now Boys ... Y'All Been BUSY!!

Delmas2 - Congrats on a special addition to the 'family'
You've got the 165OT on the checklist more than taken care of

Calvin - WOW!! A beauty - Hoping that is indeed real scrimshaw on your Peter Stuyvesant. :D
Cant imagine a process to stamp on bone giving that great a result.

And Hal - That knife is just a knockout. And then I continue scrolling and I hit the jimped back liners. :triumphant: Geez Louise drool drool - the 825 Stainless Steel stamp is kinda unique too.
As for that sheepfoot blade, let's go with partially serrated. That's how I list mine that have a simlar 'treatment'.

Nice find Hal!! Eagle eyes on that find.

Good going on the Daddy Barlow Calvin, I have only seen one of these before....Eric has an example.

That is sure a great 825 SS, Hal; and they are just nice knives anyway; it wasn't for nothing that millions of 897 UHs were sold. But I must say that my heart REALLY skipped a beat over your bone 58OT!

now then all i have to do is figure out how to obtain it. darn another quest. just received it and looks good cept the box's 4 corners all need gluing. what is the best thing to cement them with?

Yes, the grey stone with Schrade Walden printing on it in a small polybag.[/QUOTE]

That is a common issue, especially with the hinged boxes. Good question too. Something that dries quickly because it's hard to clamp a corner.

My latest knife from the bay is an Imperial Frontier Scrimshaw Bass. The main blade is marked 4435 which is the marking for a 4 inch wooden slab stockman knife. In the pictures I have a "normal" 4432. This knife makes my collection of Frontiers reach 50. Sorry about the foot!

Interesting knife. Camillus looking swedge and a matchstrike nail nick. Excellent find.

That makes sense looking at that knife. Makes me wonder if a few of the other SFO's Imperial did were as well. The Jim Bowie, Buffalo Bill, and Daniel Boone knives have similarities.

With the common ownership, it's often obvious there were interchangeable frames, springs, handles and blades.
