Nice looking knife. :) Is that a #165?
-Bruce

Yes, it is a 165OT Woodsman. delmas2nd bought a slightly earlier one like this in the box but the sharpening stone was missing. I just posted this so he could see what it looks like. Hopefully he has received his knife by now and we will see a good picture of it soon.

I found these two in the basement above the waterline after I started cleanin' up from Irene.

Cool find! And I note that the thong holes aren't even scorched!:p

Thought so. I've been after one of these for awhile with no luck. :)

I reckon I've been bit hard

I haven't been around for a few days (cuttin'/balin'/haulin' hay.. pitiful this year... dry, dry, dry), but I recently got my first Schrades in a long, long time. My picture-taking doesn't really do them justice, but here they are:

34OT and 61 OT (thanks again, Hal)

I had no clue about Canal Street Cutlery, but after learning about their origins I felt compelled to have one. It just seems right.

I think you're right about thinking that way. From my research, Canal Street Knives are about the closest you can come to having a new production, non Chinese made Schrade.
At least it seems like they should be related. ;)

This is a nice one, just a bit of staining on the Master blade:

It's the nicest Schrade Fish knife that i have. The 1960 is a guess.
What's the purpose of the small hole in the front side rear bolster ?

My ebay search is simply "folding knives". Most Schrades i pass on as i fortunately bought a whole bunch in 2007-8 when the pickin' was easy. But i still regularly see a very good Schrade example at an insultingly low price with just a minute or 2 to go. I feel the call to defend Schrade's honor and put in a better bid (but still lowball). The result is a steady stream of Schrades taking up residence in my home.
I don't often post them but here are a few recent steal bargains.

One of Schrade's Finest:

Trio of Single Blade Folding Hunters, one of my most favorite Schrades:

Right-On NRA ! 97OT, The Most Useful Schrade of All. If you don't have one(or more), you must get one !

Schrade-Walden 3 7/8" Whittler, black composition; not sure of the pattern # (8041 ?)

All very good knives. Collecting Schrades is a lot of fun.

roland, that is a great bunch of knives. The folding hunters are my favorite. I have a few Frontiers (46 series) but I guess they were made by Camillus (no lanyard hole).

Roland - Thanks for sharing. I believe that small hole in the rear bolster of the fish knife is a hook straightener. I love the fish knife pattern, especially the yeller ones... I will be on the hunt for a Schrade now!!

Roland, I approve of your taste! That whittler is an 804. The later special Heritage series has one in stainless, and that is the 8041 number you mentioned. They made them for Craftsman, as well. I am still waiting for a good much earlier one from Schrade Cutco; may never get one; I had one in hand but someone ruined it with a grinder so I sent it back; the seller was gracious about it. The fish knives are very charming, are they not?

I have a tough time passing up Schrade bargains too. I second the "hook straightener" explanation.

The 804 was referred to as a "mechanics knife", "carpenters knife", or simply "whittler pattern" at different times. These terms will help you find more info on them if you are so inclined. My 85th Anniversary sterling burnt stag 804 is one of my favorites! I love the split-spring configuration and the shape of the knife in general.

The 1938 original 81004 3/8 STG

Someone explain that number. In the 1947, they called it No. 4

Somebody more knowledgeable than me has to answer your question, Hal. This 804 in bone has a faint etch "PROFESSIONAL CARPENTER" and there is another illegible word in a larger font above that. Perhaps the name of a company who ordered the knife? It's a shame someone let it get so rusty, because it appears to be almost unused otherwise. The steel is still smooth but it doesn't look like it!

That's a nice one Calvin, and not fibestos either. Quite a few of the ones with bone handles had the "Everlastingly Sharp" etch. That one has all kinds of character.

Here is one that is not fibestos or derlin, not sure what they used.

Cal, nice knives, as we've come to expect in your posts.
Hal, i have one of those Craftsman Whittlers. The handle material is the same as on the 832's we discussed here recently and concluded it an early Delrin 'expriment' (referred to as "K Handle") before settling on Staglon, etc.
Do i understand that correctly ?
roland

Actually Roland, I think the 832 material was color/dye experimentation with Delrin. The Craftsman "staglon" I've handled seems different than the Uncle Henry delrin, but it sure could be. It's composite plastic for sure, but seems to me a bit harder than delrin.

Geez you guys are throwing up some beauties!!! 804's are one of my favorites!

Al, nothing wrong with those pictures, I think they're fantastic. Nice to see a Canal Street in the bunch! Looks like natural bone on that one.

Here's are a few pics from the Canal Street shop showing a little lingering relationship:)
