3rdGen, nice Buck (and Old Timer!!), love that red bone.

Roland, I've seen a few of those guys, but with delrin handles. Yours is definitely older, and in great shape too.

Eric

Nice display there, Roland!

Somwhere or other, I've got an LB7 wth a "US SENATE" etch on it as well. Today, you couldn't even think about carrying a blade that size into the Senate. Sad....

Do you still have this knife? I saw it and just had to add my 2cents. Can't say much about the engraving and it could be by Schrade but I do believe the box is incorrect. From what I've seen all of the Uncle Henry signature blades meaning on the tang reads "Uncle Henry Schrade+" came in "Sharp Idea" boxes. The white boxes carried earlier LB7's with just Schrade+ stamped on the tang. I have seen many, many mis matched boxes on e bay so I can't say this one is original. This reply was from a much earlier post concerning an "leaf" engraved LB7.

Actually the "leaf engraved" is an exception which disproves this theory. Link: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/898371-LB-7E-with-fancy-leaf-engraving-and-bling?highlight=leaf+schrade

I posted more details regarding this topic here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/930747-LB8-handle-with-LB7-blade

Both knives are stamped 881 on the back tang of the master blade. The Peachseed bone knife i think first appears in the Sears catalogue with these makings in 1954. The other knife is from the early 1970's ?

This knife may have had a blade etch, but is stamped only with "Craftsman/USA" on the master blade tang. Schrade-Walden and a pattern number was not stamped on this one, but i think it is a Schrade knife from the early-mid 1950's.

is that a different match strike pattern, like the one on my 8 OT. did they vary the pattern of those as well? the match strikes i have seen on the Scharde's have been triangular in shape and this is is more straight?

Both the matchstricker pull and swage on the clip blade are different on this "Craftsman/USA" knife compared with the 2 Craftsman 9514 i posted above, which is why i posted it as a "Schrade, i think".
Hopefully someone will know for sure.

Lovely and interesting knives, Roland. Thanks for taking time to show them. Posting scans and photographs takes a little effort, and I appreciate it. I think Ulster could be a candidate as maker for knife in post 2807. These reminded me of a non-catalog item I have in buffed, user condition with what I think of as Rogers bone. The two blades are on one spring.

I second this motion.

bawana, i have no idea what to think. I have never seen a 3OT before. That said, it looks unaltered to me and you have found the Holy Grail, the Holiest of all Schrade Grails. I bow at your feet, Master.

That is a very rare knife!! Although there were flyers for this pattern, I had heard maybe they were never produced. Virtually unused too, remarkable. Please don't tell us you found it in a flea market for 20 bucks?

Awesome find!!

That is quite interesting. It "looks" right. If I were to try and be skeptical, I would point out the somewhat proud pivot pin. The main blade looks like the same one they use in the 175. I also am looking at the pile side tang area, which looks like it has been sanded heavily (could just be a trick of the camera), yet the 3OT looks very clear and crisp.

I am in no way saying the knife is fake, it looks good to me. Just trying to rule out if it is something else.

That is a crazy sweet knife. You are a lucky man!

Using a loupe, is the pivot pin perfectly round on both ends ? If so, it is very unlikely that the knife has been tampered with.

Nice close-ups! The bone looks good. And the pivot pin that's visible could just be from things separating a bit. If you don't mind my asking, was this an ebay purchase?

ETA - Oh I see you posted a pic of the pile side stamp. Does anyone have close up pics of the 2OT stamps?

Thanks,
Glenn
