i just picked up this knife:

What !?!; says Colt U.S.A. But, it kinda looks familiar ?
according to seller: "this knife was produced by Schrade around 1990 in a limited amount"
"I think that this knife was used as a sample run for the laser engraving on the handle"
and "WE were making some of these for Colt at the time"

WE ??, well his address is Napanoch, N.Y. which my map shows me is just a short drive north of Ellenville on highway 209.

and yep, it's an LB5:

i think it's a 'cool' find ! roland

Nice find Roland, I'm sure there are some folk who live in Napanoch used to work at the Schrade factory, only a short distance north as you deduced.

From 1987-1990 Schrade did a bunch of different knives for HD.
They even did a kitchen carving set. The handles were laser engraved with the Harley name. The Sheaths for the knives all came wit the HD logo.
Attached is a markup of the knives. They also did a 171 and 152.

Irv, that's pretty remarkable to be able to show us some original factory drawings. i guess the real experts were aware of these knives, but new to me.
what a Giant Schrade was, makin' knives for everybody. i also have an LB7, Harley Davison, but i think it is marked Schrade. this one is marked Colt. i thought United Cutlery made the Colt USA knives. maybe U.C. sub-contracted out to Schrade ? or am i mistaken about U.C. involvement ?
anyway, seems like not too many of the Schrade/Colt ones were made.

The Colt is pretty special..
I can't find any info on it but will keep an eye out.

Here are some new ones to me.

The 733 Greenskeepers knife. In production 1953-1958, ivory plastic handles.
Obviously it has been used!

The classic Blue FFA 8OT. It has had a problem with moisture at some time.

And last but not least. The scrimshaw version of an 8OT; the SC505.
I think this is an older one as the blades appear to be carbon steel.

I hope you enjoyed them,
Dale

Nice selection there, Dale! I really like that greenskeepers knife! I didn't even know there was such a thing until I saw one on ebay last week that Herman Williams redid. Another to keep an eye out for !!!

Dave

The Greenskeeper knife is unique. only the V is sharp, so you would push that into the ground and cut the weed from it's root. (many "weeds" seem to have a taproot, thus suitable for slicing off) But, you'd have to be careful about torquing laterally and getting grit into the entire knife.
in real life you need a dedicated tool for this job, so i can see why it probably didn't find much of a consumer niche at the time. but it finally does as a collectible ! like Dave, only 2nd one i have ever seen.

love that blue ffa dale!! never seen that before.
really nice example there dispatch------------brady

These two knives came to me from different sources, but ended up coming from the same place. A sale in Pennsylvania. Ended up trading for one from Ozzie (Keith), then winning one on Ebay, as did Keith from a different seller. Ends up the two sellers were buddies (lady antiquers) and had bought a lot of of them at a real auction.

Pleased that two of them ended up here. :) I have not seen these in a fitted hinged Old Timer box before with the brown dust sleeve. Wish they would have had paperwork, but they did not. Both have a purty reddish delrin, and one stamp does not say 58OT. Does anyone know what the steel is on the Ulster 58OT was? It looks a lot like Case CV.

Just grabbed a 72OT user. Looking forward to putting some more patina on it.

How many of the FFA versions were made? I have the 8OT shown above and this smaller one...

I can't answer your question, Guyon, but the 8OT is the only version I've seen until you posted that one. Nice find!

I found a couple of them at a flea market in mint condition. I sent one, along with a letter of thanks, to my high school FFA advisor.

The 8OT, I bought on fleaBay right after Schrade went under. No shot of it by itself, but it's hard to miss on the right side of this pic.
