Yep, there are at least 3 B.C. Schradites. maybe we can have a Schrade knife "round-up" next summer to show and swap ! and invite Dave in case he wants to swap his stag knives !

I assume that BC, although most folks are thinking British Columbia, also stands for the fact that some of you started grabbing the good ones B.C., and the rest of us commoners didn't get started until A.D.:)

Well, I don't know if I can compete with those stag handled beauties, but here's my latest round-up. Maybe one of you guys can shed some light on the red bone stockmans for me. I've never seen a set like this. Almost looks to me like an SFO that wasn't finished toward the end of days. The tangs don't match, which leads me to think that, or maybe a set someone was customizing on their own. Either way it beats me! Also is an 805 Kon-Kav that unfortunately has a stained clip and the etch is faded. Last is a 98OT that is in better shape than the one I already have. Enjoy!

I'm thinking because serial #s of red bone ones don't match they were never a completed set. Perhaps they did get put out together near the end or maybe someone took three great knives and put them in that case. Maybe the big one was originally intended to have a shield maybe not. I think it's hard to know for sure. Please correct me if I'm wrong on this.
Regardless of when they left Ellenville they are really beautiful knives. Great pics!

Aggie,

The 8OT is the wrong knife for that set. It should have a shield like the other two and shouldn't have threaded bolsters. The tang stamp's wrong too. It should also be serialized to match. Someone apparently substituted it. That was a three knife set that came out in 1985.

I appreciate the input guys. I had a feeling that it either came out toward the end, or was a mix-n-match set. Either way, they're easy on the eyes and I'm very happy with them. Thanks again!

Chuck

Chuck,

I'd be mighty happy too, you can't beat that bone!

Eric

Chuck,
Whether they match or not, those are all great looking knives! Even the stained Kon-Kav. Nice finds!

Yes, we should meet somewhere, somehow!
There are a few knife collectors in the Lower Mainland, and we meet once a month on a Saturday morning in Surrey. Info on request.

Dave and Roland, I also go to the Oregon Knife show every April, and occasional shows in WA!!

well did a little shopping the last couple of days and got some nice things. i will post actual photos of them when they come in.

the one with the sheath all it needs is a little cleaning, some leather cleaner and viola it will match my other one. unfortunately for me my son wanted one so told him he could have it and we will restore it together.
plus an off name one which i will share cause i really like it:

Delmas, as i'm sure you know it's not really "unfortunate" that your son wants some of the knives you are buying. it's v. rewarding for a parent to have a child who shares our passion for knives. my daughter Isabella is only 4 but already has a sizeable collection of knives she claimed after helping me open the package on arrival. almost daily she gets out her knife roll, removes and opens up every knife and then gets one of HER cleaning rags and wipes them all down as she tucks them back into the roll.
it's not proper to let a 4 year old play with knives to most people (she actually has 3 years of experience with this), but it involves a lot of positive behaviours and brings much enjoyment to me too. i'm sure you find the same. lucky us !

That 8OT looks like it was on a frame from the Heritage Series with the double threaded bolsters. Nice substitute with the regular carbon blades instead on stainless. I've seen this combination a few times.

Roland, that's hilarious, so not politically correct, very old-school and a good thing too in my eyes. It's always great when kids and parents share interests whatever they may be. That can last a life-time. I am sure she is learning lots about the correct way to handle and use them from you and if she likes them enough to be polishing all the time I'm sure she is extra careful with them. I am not sure an adult unsupervised knife roll full of razors and 10 neighbourhood kids is a good idea cause they all won't have been taught what your daughter has been taught but I'm sure you are way ahead of me already. I read Scouts in U.K. can't carry knives like they used to and it sickens me. The outdoor traditions and values that go with Scouts and bushcraft in general should not be allowed to die just because of political winds and the violence the poverty in big cities breeds. The knives we collect are no different threat-wise than the ones in everybody's kitchen drawer. They just are functional works of art that help us recall times long past: or at least that's how I see them.

I wonder if that particular 8OT is what SMKW had as a special edition (see Larry's post above). it would certainly make sense if there was plenty of redbone to go around. Just use a different blade to differentiate it from the heritage knives. I'm with Thawk on the carbon steel preference:thumbup:;)

Eric

I second that sentiment on the carbon steel, I prefer it over stainless any day. Especially if it is a user. Once it patinas and darkens up is when it really shows its character. All of my users are carbon.

Chuck

just won much to my suprise a 285UH. can't wait to get it and see how it really looks. photos to follow.

I just purchased a very old gold Schrade watch-fob knife with 2 blades and a file that I hope to be solid 10 Karat but I need help from the experts before I get too excited. Here are some pics taken by seller. I haven't received it yet.

What are these handles made of? Solid gold? Gold filled? Gold plated at best with solid gold loop only? I really need some help on this one!

I know it's a pre-1947 Schrade because of tang stamp but that's all I know for sure. I know the shackle is hallmarked "10 KT" only (not "10 KT GF"). There are no stamps on the handles at all only on blade and loop. I have confirmed this.

I can't yet find this knife in '40s or earlier catalogues. I have looked at www.collectors-of-schrades-r.us and AAPK with no luck.

I'm hoping maybe Larry303 might be able to help after seeing his fantastic gold Schrades.

Any and all comments welcome but let me know if you are only guessing or if you think you know for sure. Thanks guys!!!
