No USA on the Tang Stamp. Even the used car salesman of the knife world got duped, and is passing it on. :foot:

I confess I plopped this stinky one down in the "Parker" thread over in Bernard's forum. This, IMHO, was just over the top in blatent lying. The "Used car salesman" knew full well the origin of that knife, possibly even bought it distributor direct from the source.

Putting us back on track with today's mail....

858ot stainless. Carbon backsprings though. Took a minute or two but she will push cut paper now and shave a little. Needed cleaning too.

I like the large stockman knives, especially the 858. If it bothers you at all you can remove the white residue from the handles near the bolsters by running your fingernail over the residue to lift it off then just wipe with a rag. I have seen this on several Old Timers.

What causes that residue?

("What causes that residue?")
it's a reaction between methane, hydrogen sulphide and the Delrin polymers.
the white film is the residue left behind.
the commonest source of methane and hydrogen sulphide is flatus.
Don't fart on your knives.

Sometimes the Delrin will outgas leaving a thin white surface coating. This happens a lot when they are exposed to sunlight like in a window or lighted display case. Burnishing with the fingernail works when it is light. Sometimes replenishing the surface with a light inert oil helps. The brown dye doesn't go real deep into the Delrin. I have an old well loved 165UH (owned by a Texas hog hunter) that had lost most of the color from the Delrin. I refinished it with a brown then black shoe sole dye, Fiebings I think. It was a cold dye so it isn't nearly as deep into the Delrin as the original dye was, but it is a good approximation of the original appearance.

PS- Never fart on your knives. It also spots the carbon steel!:p

There are times when my flatus would likely melt the entire knife if it were in my back pocket:eek::D:D

Thanks for the answers on that one guy's. Whow!!

Note to self!.......Do not get caught in confined spaces with Eric.:D:D

If that is what caused it I ain't running my fingernail over it to peel it off.

And you can rule out carrying it around between my teeth when I play pirate too. :barf:

Here is one I have had for quite a while but don't think I have posted it before.

It is a Stagbrand by Geo Schrade Knife Co.
I am not sure if this was a collaboration with Boker or not.
The back tang is ink stamped 153.

Dale, I "think" the Stagbrand knives were made by Geo. Schrade before Boker bought the company. Boker made ones that I have seen had "Schradebrand" on them, though they were the same basic five patterns. A few of the "Schradebrand" I have seen still had the Boker "tree" etch on the blade. I don't know this to be the absolute fact, but it is how it adds up from what I have seen. I have some of each in my collection (but none with the etch).

Just got this 234K, showing it with the 896K. I like to call this delrin variation buckhorn. I was pleased with the 234K, has really nice snap.

This K-Horn color isn't as common as the orange brown swirl. As you can see they left the back scale on the 234 in the toaster a little longer.

:thumbup:nice k-horns thawk, ive yet to get any of those:(
hers a buffalo bill folding hunter that showed up recently, the tang stamp was very precisly removed without grinding on the entire length of the tang , and then was somewhat polished where the deed took place. i asked the seller about its origins and he told me his grandad worked in the quality control dept at schrade. makes sense now. --------brady

Neat knives thawk! I have one exactly like that only different. Mine has an 897UH stamped master blade. I've never known what to call that Delrin jig pattern.

Brady, that knife is cool too! I have several reject knives and with most of them, I can't find a problem other than the obvious tang mark strike. IIRC, they did sell some of these to employees through the company store over the years too.

ok, im coming clean, sorta..............................got this one lately too. 1985? factory custom (lb7) scm7

Sweet! I love those SCMs! I don't have one, but I think I do have one of the tooled sheaths. I can't remember if it is the standard SCM sheath or an SFO stamped one though. Here is the flyer from 1985. Whatever you do, don't save and print a copy to display with that knife! ;)
