Here is a correct original 897UH I just came across. It isn't that unusual except for the uncommonly dark color.

As to when it was made, the included papers tell the story. "SCHRADE CUTLERY CORP" "Est. 1904" indicated c.1974-84, possibly on the earlier side rather than later since the "hunter" loss waranty folder is included and the warranty card indicates that the knife is serialized. The serial number is unknown at this time.

That looks like an Uncle Henry I used to own, in fact it looks like a picture taken on my computer desk too. (But I don't think it is) I've sold about 5 NIB 897 in a brown box. I had one stamped like that with a weak spring on the clip blade. Bought it at a gun show.

This one did not have a serial number. The knife below is the same knife. It's a dark one, but I don't think it is the same knife as above.

Pretty close on the derlin footprint though. Where did that picture come from Codger? I could not find one like it in my archives.

I had 1 of these 897's and it was a favorite back in 1987 when I joined the USMC, I remember going with the recruiter to the MEPS station in another city, he asked if I had remembered to leave everything at home that I wouldn't be allowed in boot camp like specifically knives, lighters and jewelry. I had forgotten the knife in my pocket(or rather remembered instinctively). Well he said he would call my dad and have him pick it up. I don't remember whatever happened, worse yet, I don't remember where I bought that one-a strange thing for me to forget. I think I may still have the box.

If you couldn't tell already, the 897UH Premium Stockman is one of my favorite folding Schrades. In fact, searching for a replacement knife like this is what led me to this site some years back. I carry and use one nearly every day in my construction and service work. I've gifted them to my co-workers who carried pityful "gas station" knives. And I have, since 2004, acquired quite a few of them in odd variations.

There are a lot of them still out there if you want to find one, often for less than the last MSRP. They were made from 1967 thru 2004, and were very good sellers right up to the end.

Yeah, I will spot one on ebay and pick it up some day soon. I had purchased the old timer version (64ot ramrod I think) and gifted it to my older brother a couple of years ago. It was nice, and basically identical except for the scales and badge, but I'm a little partial to the UH logo and staglon on some models even though I own more old timeys than UH.:D
Best, Mike

My newest addition is this Statue of Liberty Commemorative. It came in the wooden display box with all of the documentation. The shield is of the Museum of the City of New York, and is sterling. The bolsters appear to be sterling, but I don't know for sure. The handles are jigged bone. The knife is serialized #218 out of 15,000.

Nice find! Those gold etched ones are rarer than you think, there were 500 of them made, not 15,000. That's the number of the regular etched models. Your bolsters are sterling as well, it should be written across the mark side bolster, I think I can barely make it out in the photo.
Here's a copy of the booklet for that one:

Wow! Here's the document that came with the knife I bought. The seller must have put this set together and used the wrong document. "Sterling" is written on the bolster.

Well done Pygy you can just never know sometimes .
I have a normal peasants one Pygy #7066 on a wall hanging .
Not a gold 1/500 like yours .
Your paperwork looks like one for the wife .
No Boss only cost me a few bucks one of the 1/15000 models you see .

Some more new knives.

First is a Schrade made for Parker Frost.

Very nice! Those were some well made knives! IIRC, a SFO was made from one of these for Sears as well.

I'm not really an Imperial guy, but I hadn't seen one with a serrated edge before, so for $3 at a yard sale, I grabbed it.
