My latest Schrade is a Schrade SS102 melon tester. Etched blade say's, "Razor Blade Stainless". I would guess the knife dates from the late 60's, maybe early 70's. My second melon tester I own. My other is a SS700, issued in 1968.

The wife and I took a little road trip this weekend and I found a few keepers. I realized this weekend I have lots and lots of schrades but until I saw a clasp knife for what I thought was a fair price I realized it was one model I had no examples of??? and also a schrade gentlemans knife with what I believe to be real mop and not mot but you guys may know better than me. Both appear to be mint and unused the 876 appeared to have original grease/ oil on the joints? - Got the pair for around $60

Ps my pictures suck and I know that...

I may well stand corrected but i don't think Schrade used real Pearl even though some of their Gent's Lobsters look very "Pearly".

Schrade absolutely used genuine MOP, it says just that in catalogs. Their Marine Pearl was a very nice simulation too:

It's pretty easy to tell them apart even in this photo. I have a hard time shooting MOP and MOTS. The top left is a Schrade Walden 877, not sure what the Schrade Cut Co below pattern number is. The lower right gents knife has the tiniest pen blade I've ever seen.

Joel, I'm pretty sure that 876 is MOTS. That clasp knife is a dandy. Nice to see you too Joel, and glad you had a good road trip.

Yea maybe it isint mop but Im just so use to the really really cheap looking mot this one was heavy and dense thought maybe it was the real mccoy. I knew schrade made some with real mop but I wasnt sure thanks Hal. - Joel

Hal, that was 'info' passed on to me some time ago by our friend "Waltongirl", that all the "Pearl" Schrades are actually Marine Pearl(synthetic). I am away from home at present so i can't pull out my Schrades to check, but i think then that i only have Marine Pearl examples.

I would like more!! here is an example of a Schrade Cut Co Senator pattern with Pearl handles, pattern 7706B.

I got 2 of these Founder's Edition knives, one in perfectly intact clampack, and the other in damaged clampack, so I opened the one.

Hopefully this might make up for my big pearl no-no.

I think the blade finish is original, not buffed but would like a 'second opinion'.
what's really nice with this one is a winning price of just a few hamburgers.

Nice peachseed Roland. Ulster gave blades a shiny finish. I like that knife a lot. Wish they would have put a nice shield on it. I notice the pins are not brass. I think your Pearl Faux Pas is quite forgiven now.

Roland, I had a lobster just like the one on the top left in mint condition I traded for years ago at a knife show for a nice custom damascus boot. It brings back memories.

Schrade Cut Co definately used genuine Mother of Pearl as I have a S/ Cut Co mint lobster MOP from the Schrade Wall Collection. Its shown in my corner on Larry V's site...

Beautiful find Roland! The only reason I would think there may have been a little polishing involved with those blades is the fact that the pits are nice and shiny and smoothed over, I would think they'd be a bit darker, but it sure doesn't detract from the knife, and it may just be the overall brightness of the glare. Those handles are ma-velous!
