Really good eyes on the 8OT aggiebuilder!! Is Merschaum bone as advertized on some early Schrade Walden knives actually Delrin or another type of plastic, anyone know?

If it is an 885UH, only if it is an old Brown Box example, IMHO. It might be an opportunity to try "Lets make a Deal" for the lot. They have been in the case for a while. I'd be interested in the "TA" trapper, but not sure what "TA" is.

Next time i'm over there Hal I'll have a look at them. Thanks
Steve

Never owned a toothpick but I just won this one. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...809653&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_500wt_1154 I believe it will clean up good.

It already looks clean. The patina on the blade is perfect. I wouldn't touch it if I had bought it.;)

I just put the numbers in my wallet. My memory is toast.
the trappers looked like smal 3 1/2's.
They also had a smaller stockman and a two blade. Now I'm wondering if they have any sawcut delrins in there.

I don't believe I've posted this KeenKutter/Schrade/Camillus here yet. I got it a while back, but its journey and saga are finally complete. I'll post a picture here, but refer you elsewhere within BF for the rest of the tale!

Sorry about the weird reflections on the blade.

Your knife was the 16,500th one made. Yes, serials on the 165OT and 15OT were stamped on the choils until discontinued circa 1972. Since production began in mid to late 1966, yours was made late in production with the Walden stamp, circa 1971-72. The last of the Walden stamp in 1972-early 1973 were on blade right with no serial. Production continued thru 1991 with the Schrade 165 U.S.A. stamp out on blade right with no serial.

I watched the auction on that one, but I already have one close to that serial so decided to pass. It is a decent example. If you don't already have one, just wait until you hold that serpentine handle for the first time! You may have just found a new favorite Schrade pattern!

Charlie, that knife is a beaut! Yes, I read thru your thread on it's cleanup. Desk drawer or box to the basement or attic sounds right. Excellent find!

Yep, I passed on this one because of the seller's feedback. Both the feedback he has received and feedback left. Long story short, you got the knife for about $20 less and the seller lost out. I hope it is as nice as it looked in the pics.

i've got one so far and like its heft and weight. use it to carve my meat into steaks which works quite well i might add. the one i have does not have the sheath but it is a schrade walden without the number. will be nice to have one with a sheath.

That second style sheath seems to be in great shape. Now you can work your way backwards through the serial numbers to a low triple diget.

Rat tail bolster and half stops. In new condition. Black celluloid. I could not see it in the early Schrade Walden catalogs, but it is in the old Cutco catalogs.

I loved seeing that knife Calvin. Glad you were the winner. Is there a pattern number on the back of that one. It has a great sheepsfoot blade.

Hal, this one has no pattern #. Here is the description in the old catalogs:
From 1938 Supplement to Schrade Cutco catalog:
“Number 2394 1/2 B. New England Whaler, 3 9/16 inches long; 2 blades; brass lined; rat nickel silver bolsters; cleaned inside; glaze finished blade; Black Celluloid handle.
(One blade knife; same as above without Pen blade…..No. 1394 1/2 B.)”

Calvin, that is NICE! Never seen one with the etch before:thumbup::thumbup:

nice snag Powernoodle!

My first and only schrade:
DSCF4235.jpg

I've spent 6 hours for cleaning this and sharpening. When I received seller stated used and never sharpened. Edges had same amount patina as blade and sheepshoof and mainblade were dull as spoon. Speyblade was sharp but bent. After 6 hours of blade straightening, rust removing from springs, lubing and sharpening edges there it was: Beautiful Schrade 34OT. Blades are now really sharp and its like new knife. Its pleasure to use.

However I have two Parker-Frost's made by Schrade comming up.

Since it was introduced, Schrade sold more of the 34OT than any other knife they made. The larger brother 8OT which was made for more years sold nearly as many, but not quite. Good job on the cleanup!
