Here is a John Primble 926 AKA Schrade Walden 899, a slenderino, circa mid 1950's. I like the dark tan peachseed up against the patina.

Very nice knife indeed! I can't make out the tang stamp. Does the bottom line say Schrade C Co?

825, 855, 895, 899, these and other open stock patterns continue to confuse me. Is there a list posted here that gives the pattern #'s for the open stock knives along with the closed length and blade types & arrangement ?

AAPK Open Stock Knife List

Older Open Stock Knife List

A couple of pretty comprehensive lists over on All About Pocket Knives. Like Codger says though, I prefer the catalogs over on the Schrade site.

Thanks Codger. I am being 'lazy' (more actually overwhelmed by the 'rest of life') and hoping that someone had already studied the catalogs, or the knives in their collection, and put together a list.

It says:
JOHN PRIMBLE
BELKNAP
HDW & MFG CO

I don't know all the contributors to Belknap's cutlery line, but I do know that in addition to Schrade, Boker U.S.A. made knives for them, and at least some of those knives had the outline of a five-point star stamped on the tang. Gosh, Hal; I wish I had seen that 899!!! ;)

Here is an early 1950s trapper with the more complex shield and threaded bolsters. Some nasty scratches on the clip, but otherwise this knife has 100% finish (minus the stains) and no loss.

That is one fine 293! I have to wonder how much of those scratches would disappear with some tarnish remover. I always think about stuff like that. Sometimes the scratches are only in the tarnish. You might not want to pursue that though. I almost regretted cleaning up my one bone handled 825 because it didn't have the same character after I polished it up. Boy, I like that big old long swedge on the clip blade! That is an odd shield. The only place I could find it is on an old bone handled 294. Not counting Uncle Henry knives. Purdy cool!

I assure you that, nearing the 70 year old mark, MY scratches go deeper than the tarnish. :) (uh... not talkin' about the knife.)

Thanx to all for the positive reviews. Keep those cards and letters comin'!

I'm a waiting this mail call to come in. Does any have information on these. I know they did a collection that was a U.S. Army, U.S. Navy & U.S. Marines. I believe it to be Schrade make but don't quote me on that.

Nice stockmans, Robert! I just got one today myself. a 1950s 890 with pen instead of spey. The second one I have ever seen made up like that; neither one has a pattern number stamped. This one has been nicely pocket-warmed.
