Wow Tim, that's a disappointment. Any thoughts of returning it? Have you otherwise found the Magnacut to be an improvement over, say S30V?501 Larrin - not too bad on the grind, but there may be some rust starting already on the lock bar

I won't be returning it yet. That's not really convenient while I'm across the pond. I don't have a comparison on the steels yet. That will take a bit of time to determine a preference there. It just arrived today; haven't even cleaned it yet. It may just be something stuck on the lock bar that I'll need to work at a bit to get cleaned. Thumbnail pressure wasn't quite enough; need to dig a bit more at it and maybe use a touch of cleaning fluid. The blade is about 0.5mm off center. It's enough to notice if I stare at it for a while, but not enough to cause any issues. It's mostly acceptable and will make a nice user, but doesn't seem quite as fancy as the label on the box it came in would indicate. A slight improvement in quality control would not be amiss, especially for these limited editions. Of course, maybe I'm just being a bit spoiled already by the small CRK Sabenza I also received today. I just need to keep in mind the difference in prices.Wow Tim, that's a disappointment. Balanced commentary, thanks for sharing Tim. I'm closely watching the Magnacut to see if it lives up to the hype. Some love it, some feel its just another good steel. Personally, I'm slow to jump on the latest and greatest steel, but love to learn about it from actual users!I won't be returning it yet. That's not really convenient while I'm across the pond. What do you consider an improvement? A lot depends on how you use your knife and what your expectations are. When the 110 in Magnacut came out, Buck said they ran the hardness at 60 to 61 HRC, to maximize toughness. According to Larrin's charts. At that hardness edge retention should be slightly less than S30V, and about the same as S35VN. Toughness should be over three times greater than S30V and S35VN. I have been carrying my 110 in Magnacut since they came out last January. Seems to me the charts are about right. I have had to resharpen a little more often than I did with my 110 in S30V, and about the same as my 110 in s35VN. I try not to use my knife in a way that will test the toughness part of the equation.Have you otherwise found the Magnacut to be an improvement over, say S30V?
I know they are selling the 120th online, but your physical store still has them? Even though they are still on their web site, I haven't seen one in store since late January. Which brings up a question. For how many more years is Walmart going to sell the 120th 110? We are nine months into Buck's 121st year as a company. My local Wally World had the 120th 110 on sale for just over a Jackson...
I bought two might have to go back and get a couple more.
Probably until they deplete their stock would be my guess??I know they are selling the 120th online, but your physical store still has them? They have been in and out of stock for several months. The price has varied by almost $40 this year. They are currently out of stock, but I am sure they will be available tomorrow morning. They will then be out of stock tomorrow night and then back again later this week. It is almost as if someone in the warehouse is finding a box of 10-20 and they are now sold at a price that someone picks randomly. There is probably an unknown reason, but it is an odd business strategy to change the price and have them in and out of stock constantly.Probably until they deplete their stock would be my guess??

Ha! I've had nearly the exact conversation at our local store. Our local walstore doesn’t carry them and never has. I’ve asked several times and they tell me there isn’t much interest in them. I say oh really!
