"Eh, Tony...If he makes 'em in Ukraine, or sends the profits there, I say we give him a pass."

Good on y’all.
I bought a sumo from y’all a few months back and I wouldn’t have bought the knife, or more so paid the price I did, if I was aware that it wasn’t made in the USA. Like many other dealers, it was listed as made in the USA, so I had no reason the question a reputable company.

I buy knives made in many countries, what I expect is a quality tool and transparency about its origins. I will not pay custom prices for a production, except for those shiros I bought, nor will I pay U.S. labor prices for “sweat shop” labor.

Greed can get the best of people and it’s a shame it happens so frequently in this hobby, or so it seems.
Maybe you should boycott DLT, since they listed the knife as Made in America when Hoback never claimed that it was?

Except of course he never claimed his knives were made in America ... or anywhere in particular. Other than that....
Maybe you missed where he knew they were listed as USA made and never did anything about that. He actually lied on camera and Jordan called him on it. What about that part?

What he actually said was that he contacted at least one dealer on several occasions to straighten them out, and that they failed to make the correction. I got the impression that he contacted more than one dealer, but apparently he didn't contact all of them. He apologized and admitted that he should have done more to set them straight.

I have no weasel in this rodeo and I can only speak for myself, but even if 100% of the materials came from elsewhere (ie: titanium from Putinstan, steel from Austria, screws/hardware from China), if the blade was cut and ground in the USA and the titanium machined into handles in the USA, etc, then that would mean "Made in USA" to me. All these arguments about "M390 isn't American so Spyderco and Hinderer are lying too" are bunk if they take those materials, wherever they may have come from, and make them into knives in the USA. Not the same thing as having those parts, whatever percentage, manufactured elsewhere then assembling them here and calling it "Made in USA", regardless of what the FTC's legalese is.

ETA: Case in point. This marvel is 92% Soviet titanium and 100% American.

I don’t have any of his knives and I had not even heard of Hoback, but man did that video leave a bad taste in my mouth! Did he actually admit that some of his knives are not even made by him, let alone in the USA?

There's no longer a Hoback Knives page on USA Made Blade. DLT has changed the country of origin to "Unknown," BladeHQ lists it as "Unpublished," and KnifeCenter has removed their USA badging and now lists them as "Import."

Based on Hoback's video raising more questions than it answered, I suspect we haven't seen the end of the fallout yet.
Fantastic. Now it makes sense why he wanted to withhold this info. Now, if no one called him on this, would he have woke up tomorrow and made sure his knives were honestly labeled as to their origin? Or would he have done exactly as he did for years and sell knives made in China, and who knows where else as made in America? People like me paying the high price to support American made.

I have no issue with overseas knives or parts. It's the liar I have an issue with.

LOL, seriously? Do you know how many knife companies with US headquarters make knives all over the world?
And they label them as such. Why don't you understand the difference? Is something not clicking for you? The problem isn't being made overseas, for the 100th time, it's him knowingly selling them as made in America. What are you confused about what I just said?

What amuses me is that you’re defending a guy so hard who just admitted in a video (that was linked in this very thread) that he does make knives in the US (but not all of them). Your listening and comprehension skills seem poor.

Protesting a double-standard is not the same as defending the maker.

Yes, yes he did. This seems to be super confusing for some people who appear to be arguing for argument’s sake. I get it though, sometimes people just get really confused and have a misconception about things. A shame.
