Where Did You Get Your User-Name/Handle?

Try chasing a 2 year old and a 5 year old around the woods with degenerative arthritis and a metal hip. Your bones will creak too. Can't complain. My kids keep me young and as long as I can still take them to the woods, I win. As an aside to Ethan Becker since he's participating in this thread, my bk16 cuts the crust off of a grilled cheese sandwich toasted on a campfire better now that it's stripped, and much better than my bk 2 or 9. I'm sure that was one of the main criteria you considered when you designed it. Thanks!

My pseudonym is the result of hours of deep thought and introspection. It in no way is the result of all the good names being taken and the fact that I'm easily amused.

Mine is a bit odd. As a little kid I was always following my grandfather around while he fixed things or tinkered with stuff. More often than not, it was at this big workbench in his garage. I spent many hours with him there. I get my love of tinkering from him, hence "benchmade".

Also, its completely unrelated to the fact that I also really like Benchmade knives:)

Mine is from my "dream truck". A 2008 Dodge Power Wagon with a manual shift transfer-case & a manual shift 6-speed transmission. Twin Stick Power Wagon.

From my parents :D

I used to use a different nick when I first stumbled across BF years ago, but as I got more and more into making knives I figured it would be better to just use my real name.

The area I live in, and grew up in is known as the Mooseyards. I own a business called Mooseyard Precision, hence the name.

"FTR" stands for Florida Trail Riders, "14" is my plate number and "c" is my class. FTR holds hare scramble races. For those of you who don't know what a hare scramble is, we race through the woods on trail or MX bikes on very tight trails, some are just big enough to fit our handle bars through the trees. Its a blast considering there is thirty bikes lined up in a field when the horn blows and we all get funneled on to a trail thats 3' wide.

Well, a few reasons actually.

One: A blade looks quite a bit like a Silver Thorn, and I have loved knives and guns and the out doors since I was a kid.
Two: I wrote a short story, and am working on an actual novel about a character that I named Silverthorn, referencing his knives.

Three: Silverthorn is a fast-growing, weedy ornamental. It is able to grow and thrive in a variety of conditions, and can tolerant shade, drought, and salt. Animals and birds disperse seed, widening its area of distribution. Reproduction also occurs via stem sprouts. When silverthorn is in the climbing form, it can climb into trees, leading to the displacement of native vegetation. Its a pain in the ass plant that thrives pretty much anywhere and displaces native vegetation, even going so far as to climb into trees.

My bet is the people here would say the third is the most appropriate for me....lol

Mine's pretty easy...

As far back as I can remember, I've been a survivalist. I guess you could say I have a 'mind' for it. I'm always thinking about it and being prepared for anything.

Hence, Survivormind.

Done.

I've used this name for over 20 years. Kai is the first name of a favorite sci-fi novel character, Winters is the name I won when I was a heavy player of the computer game "Mechwarrior"...was called a "Bloodname".

denimdestroyedmylife

kind of a riff off of John Fahey's How Bluegrass Destroyed My Life.

I think that he wanted it to be able to peel and slice an apple for a 3 year old to. Had to be in the criteria!!!

Extreme newbie (2nd post ever!), but I wanna jump in. Tug was the first of three black labs that I've owned and trained for hunting and trialing to date.

Mine is my real name....almost. The B is my first name, Brian. My last name is spelled Mouser. Over 100 years ago a grandfather of mine immigrated to the USA from Germany. Our name at the time was spelled Mauser. For some reason his identification ended up being spelled Mouser and we became the Mousers instead of the Mausers.

Nickname and M.O.S. from U.S.M.C. days. My real name is John Smith (really) and my M.O.S. was 0331 (machinegunner)

Mic was my papas nickname and throughout grade school the kids in P.E. nicknamed me Bear since I was quite a bit larger than most of them. When my grandfather passed away a few years ago I adopted the alias Mic in honor of my papa and added The Bear in reference to my childhood.
