Which do you like better? Your Opinion/Contest

I would have to say #1, I enjoy a more rugged look and I believe the eyes would hide wear a bit better such as dents and dings, thanks for the opportunity!

I like number 1 better, IMO that is what burl is supposed to look like in my mind. It's not that I don't like piece two but to me if I want that effect I would use crotch wood or curly maple.

I dig #2. You see a whole bunch of burl for sale with eyes but not much of the curly figure.

Oh yea and if you happen to come across some knock your socks off curly walnut (I'm talkin stuff so rediculous folks would mistake it for dyed curly maple) I would be all over it.

I love this wood! it's really beatiful and you cut it in two different fantastic ways! having to choose, I'm with the eyes. #1

Flames for me, especially if it's a larger handle.
The eyes are a smaller pattern, so would work better on a smaller piece. Thanks for the chance.

The eyes are what I would choose unless I had a nice radiating damascus blade to match the lines in the flame. I wouldn't say no to either if given a chance for free regardless, but I love nice eyes in women and wood.

Based on everyone's opinions I better cut some both ways.

(Tomorrow) Friday at 5pm PST we'll see who is the winner. Still time for anyone who hasn't entered their opinion for the contest. Only one entry each. You can post your entry all the way until the last minute.

I think I'll have a second prize as well for the block that the first place winner did not choose.

Mark, I guess because of your pm I was just thinking you were asking about the wood and I somehow overlooked this is a giveaway thread as well.

So with that in mind...

THANK YOU FOR DOING THIS! :D

NOT trying to sneak a double chance in there by making this post either, just want to show my appreciation for you treating us all so well around here.

Thanks my friend!!! :)

The upper piece is what I consider a more traditional cut and is quite beautiful, however the lower cut is just as beautiful and more off the beaten track. While both are beautiful in their own right, they will be part of a greater whole once integrated part of a knife. Most of the time, I match the grips to the blade I'm making, but given either of these blocks, I would build a knife around the grip material. Given the choice, I'd go with the lower one because it is different.

both are gorgeous, but #2 looks big enough for me to handle one of my scandi blanks and have enough left over for a matching turned pen.

#2 is my choice. Would love to see this combined with a complimentary damascus Gent's Bowie.

Leadfoot

Man they are both great I would have a hard time choosing , I guess I would have to go with #1

I like the bottom one best #2 Flames are cool on the side of a handle. If you want eyes they are on the top and underside. Dare to be different.
