Which knife did you own that you most regret selling?

I regret letting these two go:

BM Mini Rukus, darn near the perfect hiking companion for my tastes. Unfortunately the originals are going for way too much now, and the re-release lack the cool handle the made the original so nice.

I somewhat regret letting this Zing go. I gifted it to my younger brother who promptly misplaced it. I made the scales and I thought they turned out great. The zing was en awesome flipper and worked flawlessly. I believe he found it again, so I feel a lot better now. Also the fluted Zings are hard to find. I would probably get another if I saw one, and a Groove cause those are very cool too.

Not many I sold or traded I think about much. I wait until I'm sure that I am ready to let go. But there are a few.

Grayman Dua all Ti. Traded it before I could decide if I really wanted to keep it. Would trade for another given the opportunity. Great knife, even if the ergos are a tad odd.
CRKT Ripple Blue with Acuto+ steel. Super thin, nice blue handles, great flipper. Traded it toward a Sage 2 that I still have and still consider it worth it. But I did like that Ripple.
Kershaw Blue Red, I like red, so having an affordable knife in Red was nice. Traded it cause I didn't carry it much
BM 790 Subrosa sold to a friend. Loved the Subrosa, but didn't get carried cause of Sebenzas.

Gave away two Enlans to a couple of friends; the black version of the M021CA and a M017S. Regretted it because those are now discontinued and sell for almost twice of what I paid for in the second hand market.

I sold a lightly used Buck 650 Nighthawk a few years back. I had paid $20 new...
Never should have let it go.

The only one I really miss is my green-slab 2000 Emerson Commander. I sold all my Emersons, but I miss that one...maybe the Persian, too...

I had one of those green Commanders also. I miss it as well.

I don't know if I regret selling any knife but if one comes close it would have to be the Microtech Terzuola ATCF machine ground with Ivory micarta scales on it.

Only 1 really. My large regular CRK Website that I just couldn't bring myself to use. I traded it for a midtech that I hardly ever use.
I wish I'd never traded it, I can't replace it.

I just realized all of my regretted sales were budget Kershaw manual flippers with sandvik steel:

RAM
Groove Tanto
Zing Tanto

Such good knives! I'd love to see the RAM make a comeback, especially as a wharncliffe or sheepsfoot blade.

Benchmade 42a .... paid next to nothing for it, excellent flipper. ALso love the purple blue pink color.

I don't really understand folks saying they "loved" a certain knife and then they sell it. In most cases, the money is insignificant if you need money. I have never sold a knife (yet). But I have considered seriously thinning out my accumulation. But that requires a decision to be made and I don't like making decisions when it comes to knives except buying or using one. I certainly will not sell one that I "love".

It can happen. I sold a 'beloved' Microtech Scarab one year, because I loved my kids more, and needed the cash for Christmas presents. ($300 wasn't insignificant, at that point in my life :D) I do have a replacement, bought several years after I sold the first one.

I once traded away a Spyderco Vallotton subhilt folder (and got a great knife that I really like) but regretted losing it. Found one within a year to replace it, and am very happy that I did.

I had a Benchmade 42 that I had gotten at street price of $130, while they were still in production. I put it up for trade a couple years ago, and received a knife worth about 50% more than what I paid, but nowhere near the value 42's were going for. I don't really miss the knife, except to wonder what I could have gotten in trade these days.

I have finally gotten to the point that I don't get rid of any of my "keeper" knives. I keep enough "un-loved" knives around to trade/sell, if needed, but don't ever consider getting rid of anything I truly like, or even love.

But, if the SHTF, and I end up having to choose between my kids/wife and knives, you know what's going first.

rimfire,

I think the post above this one from Daniel Dorn presents a scenario where someone sold a knife they "loved" when they didn't want to.

It looks like the reason was Mr. Dorn loved his family more than the knife.

This was a fine reason if you ask me. :)
