As a cheap but reliable backup field knife, the Glock 78 or 81 would be my choice.
Relatively cheap, pretty much indestructible and something you shouldn't care much about if you lose or damage it.
Made of spring steel that's easy to sharpen (even w/just a rock if that's all you've got) and suitable for all kinds of uses, including hand to hand combat.
