Who all uses traditional archery?

A new #55 Predator I picked up a few days ago. Smoothest drawing recurve I've ever shot. And throws a 650gr. arrow with authority. I think I've found my elk bow for the upcoming season...

Just got a GoPro and tried to document it

That is nice, can I ask how much you paid?

Because if you got for what I consider "real cheap" you scored lol.

I paid $20 for the bow and a large aluminum roasting pot for my wife. We both really wanted the pot but I decided to try and bundle the two together.

Want to double your money lol?

That is a truly awesome score, I'd have been making my way out like a bandit quick as I could lol

Todays find. Aluminum take down.

Not sure what's under the tape yet. Seems to be missing something off of the front of the riser, maybe a sight.

Is Predator the manufacturer? Damn pretty bow. I know little about the bows being made today. I just shoot my own self bows and pick up vintage ones on occasion.

Garry -

If you search for "Hunter's Niche" you'll find their site. Love to see some pics of your self-bows!

A few knife makers I know that shoot Trad are Adam Des Rossiers, Lin Rhea, Ray Hammond, Karl Anderson, Doug Campbell, Scott Mcghee, Rick Dunkerly, that's just off the top of my head after a long hard work day.

Here is my latest, a Robertson Fatal Styk, 60", 51#@28, Curly Myrtle/Cocobola riser, Curly Myrtle limbs-

Dang RM that's pretty. Robertson styk bows I have handled a little. Very nice bow's.

Here are some of my self bows. I feel like the kid with the completely stock model A on cruise night.

Left to right four Yew Bows, English, American, flat and another American. A couple of those are rawhide backed. The last two are osage flat bows the snake skin one being a take down.

The limb tips.
That little yew flat bow is only 60" and pulls 57# @ 27". Its as straight as the day it was made(slight reflex) 7/26/2002 is the date on the limbs.

It's close to 100 rings to the inch. Could not miss all the knots. It was a challenge to get a bow out of that stave, but so worth it.

Very nice Robertson, Matt. Dick sure makes some beautiful (and deadly) bows.

I'll see your Fatal, and raise you a Quick Styk: :D

Damn, I am a self bow guy but I want to shoot that quick stick. It's unreal the bow's you guys have.

Smithhammer if you ever sell that Quick Stik give me first option!!

Ha - I think I'd part with my truck before I'd sell that bow, but if it ever comes down to that, I'll let you know! :D

And Garry - your collection of self-bows is impressive! Love to hear more about your adventures with them.

Great looking bows guys, looking to get into traditional archery myself, trying to decide whether I want to get a recurve or longbow.
Any advice?
I have fired a couple recurves at cabelas and loved them, but I think a long bow is a little more unique like me.

Get a light draw weight to start with. You'll need to do a LOT of shooting to learn to shoot instinctively. And you can hunt with a surprisingly light draw weight bow. I hunt with an old Hoyt Pro Medalist. It's a metal-riser ILF target bow with 42 lb. limbs. At my l-o-n-g draw length, it's probably drawing over 50 lbs., and I've had nothing but pass-throughs shooting 600+ grain arrow/broadhead combos (Gold Tip Traditional carbon shafts; Zwickey Delta broadheads).

Good hunting,
desmobob

Awesome! Thanks for sharing pics smithhammer!
Did you see any bulls? Any close encounters? Any bugling bulls at close range that make the hair on the back of your neck stand up?
