Who all uses traditional archery?

Smithhammer - how do you like the Asbell quiver? Do you use it for hunting?

Bruce - I've used the Asbell quiver mostly for stumping and hunting small game. It's not a bad side quiver at all, but I also recently got a Safari Tuff Duiker, which I like a lot more. It fully protects the arrows, and it is easy to slide arrows in and out of it with minimal movement.

But for a lot of my big game hunting, where I'm often carrying a day pack and a bino harness, and doing a lot of hiking/bushwhacking, it drives me nuts to also have a side quiver hanging off me, so I use a bow quiver.

Here's a link to a friend's site who makes really nice self-bows and has a step-by-step video series if anyone is interested:

And here's a link to the trailer for a new film that he's done about traditional hunting that will be coming out this spring:

Rattlestick: A Selfbow Tutorial DVD By Gary S. Davis

Theres the link to Gary's vid. Its not on youtube but I know he does sell them, or you could just go to Marshal this spring and meet him and watch him build one.

Gotta question, anyone ever use rabbit tails for string silencers? If so are they at least somewhat effective? I often keep rabbit tails from my kills and thought that they might be of some use.

I would imagine, if you can get them to stay on the string they would work. Put them on and try them out. Report back and let everyone know how they worked!

I think I am going to get back into trad shooting. Let me know if anyone want to trade bows for guns!! Gotta couple I would part with for the right bow.

Getting them to stay isn't an issue, just part the string and insert bunny tail. Just wondering if there is enough dampening. I guess I will try them out and report back.

I checked on the Marshal get together and it looks like a lot of fun with a lot of opportunities to learn a lot. If I had the time and the means I'd go. But this year is out.

I'm just gonna put this out there for anyone interested since I doubt anyone is looking in the exchange to trade a trad bow. I'm looking for a nice, custom longbow or recurve in the 45# - 50# range RH and about 58" - 60" long as I'm a short guy. Have a real nice heavy barrel .308 as an offering. If interested hit me up. I'm Bowless ATM and it's killing me.....

Thats a mighty fine lookin shootin stick ya got there! I like that brown/black combo.

While it's not 'trad' specific, this is a great little video and a good reminder about why bowhunting seasons were created to begin with, and encouraging us to use self-restraint when it comes to more and more technology being employed during bowhunting seasons, lest we lose what those before us fought so hard to get implemented. A good reminder for all of us, whether trad or compound shooters:
