Who else has shifted from folders to fixed?

Nice CM...
I'm not sure of the price your new knife, soI may be asking an apples & Oranges type question...
But what is your opinion on the Ka-Bar Ek series?
I gave my EK Bowie away to a "brother" years ago, so I'm tempted to try the Ka-Bar version...
Yeah, I like the double guard...

I've never owned anything by Kabar.

I work in a professional environment, and where I live (and tend to socialize), fixed blades aren't really appropriate. I won't consider IWB carry for a knife, because I'm already carrying a firearm instead. Now, when in the woods on one of my family's properties, then yes, fixed blade on the belt, folder(s) in the pocket.

Hey Charlie Mike!
Now I must go look up your latest order...
I am going broke here... Even broker than ahhh
Who cares? I have a roof, dog, guns knives...
I'm good!
There is no shame copying CM's knife purchases...
He backs up everyone with hard learned wisdom!
Off the www to have a look at the potential new knife!!
Have to watch the entertainment when I'm outta where I am...

Knifekits.com had knife blade blanks for these, and I think they were blade blanks left over from the Camillus closure, knifekits.com stock #CQB1BL. Not showing upon the current knifekits site, but occasionally the knives and blade blanks show up on fleabay.

I had a choice years ago, to get a Camillus CQB-1 Cuda or a Camillus-made Becker BK-7. I went for the -7, and never got around to ordering the CQB-1. Still kicking myself for that goober.

My Svord can seem a little bulky:

While living in Maryland I tried to carry a fixed blade. It is legal there as long as it's in plain sight. I loved the whole concept of the sheath knife as there's no hidden areas for dirt, no worry about it folding over at an inconvenient time, and no having to pull open a blade.

In reality, I found it a PITA when getting in and out of some kinds of cars, getting snagged on seat belts, poking me when I sat down on the sofa. And then after using it on something, getting it back in the sheath. Then there was the weird looks, and a few times some store owner just called the police about 'a man with a knife' and they responded with almost a swat team. Never got arrested, but even some cops didn't realize it was legal, and there was the time spent while they looked it up on their computer or called it in. Gave up. Just stuck with a pocket knife for a cutting tool. Never really did think of the knife as any kind of defense weapon.

Now living in Texas, it's weird. I still don't bother with a sheath knife on the belt because now I have a concealed carry permit. Got it when I moved down here, so that is enough to put on a belt. I don't like stuff on my belt, and carry my cell phone in my pocket. But now in Texas, it's legal to open carry a firearm, and people don't look at you twice if you have a Glock on your belt. Different mentality I guess. In Maryland the cops got called for a legal little Buck 102 woodsman, but in Texas a 9mm doesn't get a blink. Go figure.

I find it a lot more convenient to throw a sheath on my belt and a slipjoint in my lighter pocket. It's nice to have both front pockets free for cash, fasteners, and girls phone numbers... ok, 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

I can't disagree with you if you are comfortable with the fixed blade on your belt in public places. I like the idea of freeing up pocket space. I just wonder what you actually use the fixed blade for on a regular basis if you have the slip joint in your pocket? That is the kicker for me as I am very used to carrying a folder in my pocket and not the fixed blade.

Jackknife, I have always liked the idea of open carry or semi-concealed carry. I find it a pain to go through all these holster gyrations in terms of comfort and practical carry. I also do not like something or much on my belt. That's the dominant reason I don't wear a full sized multi-tool. It does't get used enough to justify the weight and inconvenience.

All that said, I have a little Dozier Companion with the Dozier horizontal sheath (actually several of his knives with this sheath) and it can be carried on my belt very discretely. But it IS on my belt.

Charlie Mike - I couldn't agree with you any more brother! I started with folders mostly, then evolved into carrying only fixed blades. I rotate my open carries as well, I just "like" it...I know that part of it is showing off my knives, part of it is being able to cut things throughout my day in the very coolest way possible, part of it is my need to at least feel as though I'm ready to protect my family at all times.

I live in the Northern CA Foothills, so when I walk into a store with even a 5"+blade on my hip, I don't get any frightened looks...these hill folk think it's normal, which is an advantage I have over a lot of BF members who live in more urban &-or knife intolerant areas. I see you live in Fresno, CM...how often do you, esp. with your visible ink, get the worried look from passers by?

I just watched your attached vid, which answers my question directly!

Not I compliments of the state of MI. Even if I could carry a fixed blade on my person, I probably wouldn't. I prefer a folding knife/SAK in the pocket.

If this is about personal protection, I'm a CPL holder in MI and my S&W M&P9c is for that.
I often carried a sub 3 inch blade when I lived there.
Officer: Why do you have that knife son?
Me: Hunting season sir.
(Michigan has a hunting season for something almost year round excluding small game).

I do believe you misread the law, blades with 3in+ is perfectly legal as long as your intent isn't criminal and you carry it as a tool. (Excluding legal places where carrying anything is prohibited as well local ordnance prohibiting carry) I don't think preemption has been passed here yet.

Why would the police even ask you in the first place?
Funny thing is they never really did I was just giving as example of a perfectly reasonable response . I have never once been hassled by the police for carrying a tool.

I can't say that I've "shifted" from folders to fixed blades. But recently I've become smitten with my brand new Buck 124. And now I'd say that I'm equally addicted to both (not just folders).

Wow, Doug C that is gorgeous. I carry a Camillus / Fisk OVB from back in the day. Carries like it's made of smoke.

Charlie Mike, you'll love the CQB... it's one I find myself carrying more and more.

I really want one of those EKT Companions. A.G. Russell Woodswalker fills the bill, but that Companion floats my boat.

I won't let loose of folders, but the Fixies are finding their way into my rotation more often.

Wish I could. Unfortunately it is not legal to conceal a fixed blade here in California and I don't like to advertise that I am carrying a knife by open carrying one.

I usually have one fixed blade on me. Here you can conceal 3.5 inches or less. Open carry you can almost basically carry any fixed blade beside machete or bowie. Fixies just speak to me as completely reliable tool.
