CM does have his reasons and they are self defense related in terms of fixed blades. If that was the only way I could feel "safe", you can bet I would have a beastly blade on me if it was legal.

I do have a beard... say fixies. And born in southern California guess that makes me a hipster. Guess I should start an instagram now.Hipster!
I think I would move to somewhere where I didn't feel the need to carry large weapons to feel safe. I like knives and pistols, but I'm not willing to make either into a lifestyle. 4
I could see carrying a flat 2" neck knife (if it were legal in Seattle) instead of 3.5" folder. I can't see carrying a big knife or anything larger than a mousegun.
Due to something I did while an active drug addict 10 years ago, I can't own guns. My knife is my first line of defense.
I was not expressing disapproval of whatever you want to do with knives. If anything, I'd be more likely to express disapproval of looking into a camera while using a much more deadly weapon - your car.
I answered your OP because it sounded like you were curious about what other people do about carrying fixed vs. folders. As stated, I would carry a small flat fixed if I could, and I did when I was living elsewhere.
LOL, how could you tell what I was looking at? I had sunglasses on.

I couldn't see your eyes, but I did see you changing camera angles at 2:25 while moving. If you're sure you can dictate, pretend to look at the camera, change camera angles and pay attention to the road - fantastic. It just wouldn't be an activity set I'd recommend to someone concerned with safety or avoiding future abridgment of liberty.

Was your service issue knife a bayonet, Matt ?I've never owned anything by Kabar.

I've always thought of fixed blades as "what a knife has been throughout most of history" and folders a pared-down version of that for modern-day "politeness".

Folding knives have been around for a long, long time and have appeared in many societies that weren't particularly polite nor modern. Convenience and the ability to have a cutting tool on you with absolute minimum effort is pretty valuable.
You're not wrong, but fixed blades were still much more popular until recently.
