Who likes and carries a congress

View attachment 934902

I carried this one for a good while. The pen blade opened many a trout belly along the creek. It blade options was always nice, but the handle was a bit cumbersome to me, a bit unnatural for certain cuts.

I soaked it in Coke to form the patina and it had a nice cola smell to it. The thin blades cut like razors, I would recommend you try one from Case in CV.
Great looking knife I have yet to have a chance to try useing mine when hunting or fishing I like to have a all around knife I use for everything I do work and hobbies alike I always end up forgetting a fixed blade and it's nice to know my edc work knife can handle it

To an extent, I retract what I said in post 66:D

This GEC 13 Clerk has really grown on me and although a variant of the Congress it has a very useful long Wharncliffe-tackles the biggest of apples without a murmur  Would relish finding a Blackwood or Stag now!

Great knife that wharncliffe blade is great size good user

Thanks johnboy, it makes a very good pocket-knife: hardy micarta taking on a polish&patina, thin single-spring construction keeps weight and bulk down yet a good sized master blade. Can strongly recommend this variant of the 13.

Regards, Will

I like them a lot, especially a 1/2 congress. A few years ago I often carried the white bone GEC #61 or the the American Cherry wood 1/2 congress #61. Don't carry them hardly at all now, but am still very fond of them. I tend to think GECs best was the 1/2 congress #62.

Great looking knives I need to get a half congress and see how I like it

I carry my #13s rather often and used one of them as a daily driver at work for quite some time :D one of my favorite patterns for sure

I am a big fan of the pattern.
I don't carry this one very often , but have a 4 blade banana bone Northfield 61 that rides in the pocket quite often.
I was at a museum in KC for the steamboat Arabia that had sank in the Missouri river in 1856 and they had a beautiful display of knives from the recovery of the steamer sometime in the 1980's.
There was a very nice variety of 2 blade and 4 blade Congress knives in that display. In fact , a very nice display of anything you could imagine in a frontier town from the 1850's. If you are ever in the KC area , stop in and check it out. Well worth the time and effort.
Anyway , I guess what I was trying to say is that the Congress pattern has been enjoyed by folks for a very long time. It truly has stood the test of time.

Here are a couple pictures of the knives in the museum. The Congress was well represented in the 1850's.

That's awesome I will have to go there if ever in the area looks like a great place to visit

I gave the congress a try but can't seem to fancy it. First I got an Eye Brand half congress. Terrible knife, poor finish. Then I got a #13 whittler but wasn't happy with it either, traded it away. I think I'd like a #62 though. The blades aren't sticking out on those, everything's nicely rounded.

Got a Rough Rider Congress in Black Cherry Bone. Wanted to try out a full congress; I've already got the GEC #13 Office Knife / Clerk.

I like it, definitely well made for $15. The nail nicks are definitely accessible, though relatively close to being obscured. The tips are also close to being proud, which is something I'm overly sensitive to. I am glad I got this and not the Case, because I'm not sure I'll get too many more Congress knives.

Does the Case fit the nail nicks together to be more accessible? Do the tips sit lower in the frame?
