Who still carries a Case Knife?

I've been concentrating on collecting stockmens for a little while, mostly trying to find nice examples from the 60s and 70s. These are the examples I've got so far. I know there are a few more patterns and also variants of these patterns with different blade configurations. Not sure how far I will take this, but I'm enjoying these. From left to right: 6375, 6347HP, 6332, 63032, 6318HP, 6344, 63090. The 090 was an old red bone that was way lighter and more pink than I like so I dyed it as close to the old 70s bone color as I could manage. I think it turned out pretty good.

Thank you for this comparison photo. I’ve been really into this same era. Gorgeous collection you have there.

Thanks! I find it interesting that the blades on the 44 "Junior" Stockmen from the 60s are the same or bigger than the more modern 63032 which is a larger frame. And the blades on the older 6318 from the 70s are bigger than the modern 6318.

Beautiful collection, very well displayed, and photographed. I really enjoy seeing these types of side by side comparisons.

Thank you for sharing.

Going to carry a Case Medium Lockback from 1980 today, this one hasn’t been in my pocket in quite some time. OH

Wow!! What a beautiful collection you have going there. And I think you did a fantastic job trying to match that older bone color. Has that dark blood red look to it. Thanks for sharing!!

Thanks! I find it really interesting to compare these patterns from different eras. It's pretty easy to see the quality differences between the older and newer knives. The same patterns will have stronger springs, better walk and talk and larger blades. I don't know enough about the history of the company or the financial troubles, but I assume these were cost cutting moves. Too bad, because those older knives are really nice. This isn't to say that I don't enjoy newer Case knives or appreciate the fact that they survived and are still making affordable USA made knives, because I really do. That little 63090 is really nicely made and it's from 2012.

Great collection you are showing.👍

Thanks, gentlemen!
I always liked the Canoe as a pattern. A big spear, the nice rounded bolsters and some cool etching or painting as Case Cutlery did on theirs.
For me, the handle grip on these felt the most comfortable, when both blades are open. Also the action and tightness of the main blade seems the best this way.
So I decided to grind down the pen by myself on a small grinding wheel. The rest has been filed, sanded and polished.
The main blade is now in the same position as before, which means in the closed position it's a little off center, but fine for me.
With my medium sized hands, I have now a nice, smooth and solid three finger grip between the Copperheads, when cutting with the knife.
Thanks for the info on your single-bladed Case canoe.:thumbsup::cool: I'm a big fan of the canoe pattern, and have LOTS of standard 2-blade canoe and a few 3 or 4 blade canoes. But I've never managed to locate a 1-blade canoe. Maybe I should just take a Rough Ryder canoe (or 2) and eliminate the pen blade as you describe.

Took some pics over the weekend. A few of my Mini Trappers. Carrying the red shield today.

I have a Case mini copperhead with the navy blue jigged bone and red shield, and I think it's one of the best looking knives I own. Your mini trapper "dressed" that way is also extremely attractive.:cool::thumbsup: I wonder how many patterns Case made with blue bone and red shield? I think I've also seen a canoe and maybe a full-sized trapper and/or slimline trapper. I suppose they're discontinued by now.

What model is that? Very handsome knife :cool::thumbsup:, and I'd prefer that pattern with a blade on each end to a Peanut, I think!

That’s a 6208 half whittler. It’s a single spring knife but I don’t know if that’s how they still make them or not. It’s around 3 1/4” closed. Easy to carry but big enough for most chores if you use your noodle.

Had my folks 68th anniversary last night. It was also my wife’s 67th birthday, so we had a big dinner party and I carried an appropriate ceremonial grade pocketknife, Case stag handled Mini-Copperlock. OH

VERY belated congratulations on those significant family events, Bruce; always grand to see the ceremonial Case! 🤓:thumbsup:

Nice knife, but that Case tractor doesn't look much like the Case 630 my Dad got about 1965. 🤓;) (We had been basically a Farmall operation prior to that.) While we were at the dealer in 1965, we saw a Case 930 that we thought was a ridiculously huge tractor, but several years later, after me and my 2 younger brothers had gone off to college, my Dad actually bought one of those "monsters"!

You are dead on with regard to the jigging Old Hunter Old Hunter ! And Case has done it consistently from the beginning. I cannot comment on blue knives however, because I do not think I have ever owned a blue knife. It must be time to get one! (Any excuse to get a new knife is fine with me.)
W😲W, that's a handsome knife, LT! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

I wanted to see some of the case knives in person and there is a tractor supply about 15-20 minutes away from me... So I took a ride out today.

The display was fairly empty except for a jigged white mini trapper, a yellow peanut and yellow sodbuster... But there was a worn redbone medium stockman in the case and it was a thing of beauty. I might just go back for it.

It was neat to actually see them in real life instead of just pictures on the web. Dangerous to the wallet, though....
There's a Tractor Supply store less than a 30-minute drive from me which is one of the few places I know where I can look at traditional knives in person. They have a 4-panel rotating display, and I think only one panel has traditional knives, mostly Case and Chinese Old Timers, and it often has quite a few empty spots. Don't think I've ever bought a Case knife there, but a couple of weeks ago I picked up a Chines Schrade 5OT 3.75" lockback that I'm very pleased with.

Today's carry fits in here pretty well. Wharncliffe Trapper in 6.5 Bonestag.

If I could order a bonestag mini trapper guaranteed to look exactly like yours, I'd do it in a heartbeat!:thumbsup::cool:

These have been in pocket for the past several days.... this has become something of a "stock photo", as these two seem to find their way into the pockets on a very regular basis... it's difficult to beat the "utility combo".....

Those yellow Cases are just feel-good classic, IMHO.:thumbsup::thumbsup::cool: I especially like the sowbelly stockman and pen knife!
