Who still carries a Case Knife?

I shunned the stockman pattern for a long time, as I considered myself a one blade knife knife of guy. At some point last year, I convinced myself to try this for a while. I'm somewhat surprised to report that I've grown to like it, and carry it often.

I am not surprised that the sheepsfoot is the blade I use the most, followed by the spey. I rarely use the clip.
I always find it interesting how people use the various blades on a stockman. I find myself using the sheepsfoot the most as well. It's great for utility work. I reserve my clip for food and prep. So, it might be my second most used blade. I keep the spey/pen blade on reserve, almost never used, so that if I need razor sharp and my other blades aren't cutting it I have a backup to use.

Glad you gave the stockman a shot though and that you are liking it! I think that is an 18 pattern (??) and it is one I like a lot due to its size and serpentine shape. Stockmans, in general, are definitely one of my favorite carries. I seem to be going against the grain in that I generally do not like single bladed pocket knives. The stockman and cattle knives seem like a perfect balance of variety and convenience. I like the case trappers as well!

A good friend of mine uses the spey frequently. I found myself using the spey very little. The punch, otoh, is great for poking at stuff :D
Regardless of blade preference, I completely concur, the 18 is a great pattern and one of my favorites :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Hard to argue against the Case 18 pattern as being an extremely useful pocketknife size and blade assortment. I have several, this one is my most carried and used. OH

I waited WAY too long to try out a Mini Copperlock. I'd looked at them for years but wasn't sure how well it would fit me and my uses. But now, after getting this one a month or so ago on a trip, I feel like I robbed myself for years by not having one. It's kind of a perfect daily user. Great size and design and that blade slices like crazy!

Mini-Copperlock for today, last work day before the long holiday weekend. OH

I don't know what it is about it, but I love that clip! It has a great shape, a nice swedge, and the finish is really nice!! I also don't think I've seen that pin arrangement on a case knife before.

I love the knife, but I gotta ask... is that shield upside down?? 😅 It's throwing me off for some reason.

Yep, the shield is upside down. I've seen a several Case knives from this Era with upside down shields. They stopped pinning them in the later 70s, so maybe they were installed at the factory this way, or maybe glued back in after purchase by a previous owner. I've had to glue a couple of Case shields back on to other ones I regularly carry.

Ahh interesting! I think this is the first time I've seen one like that, or at least the first time I've noticed!! 😅

Either way, an amazing knife! Stockmans are my favorite pattern and I always like the older case jigged bone.
