Who Went to Oregon?? Post Your Booty!!

Thanks everyone for making it a great show! My blue Rubbermaid tubs (I managed to nearly fill a second one!) are empty!! That money goes into the next runs of course. I had a great time, meeting and hanging with like-minded knife people! It just doesn't get any better!!
One of the highlights of the show, was sneaking up on Christine from GEC on Sunday just before the doors opened for the show-goers, and singing Happy Birthday!! We didn't get the chance to sing when we took her out to dinner the night before. I did a quick circuit, and whispered a bunch of invitations at 30-40 tables to sing with us, then the whole infamous crew of us surrounded her table! She looked up, shocked, and said "What'd I do???"
Knowtracks hit the right key, and singin50 did his perfect harmony!! I thought for a split second we were a professional choir!!
That was the spirit of the weekend, right there!!

Very true, Charlie! I, for one, was impressed with all the singing talent in our small male chorale!

I'm not so sure about our professionalism in the singing department, I'm pretty sure I heard Little Jake starting to howl! ;)
But if Perry says so, I'm gonna run with it! ! After all he IS the professional.

It SURE was a GREAT time! I am certainly going to try and make this an annual event. It was GREAT to finally meet Charlie, Rick,(AKA-Mr. Remington!) Barry, his Wife Anne and Little Jake, Caleb and his Father Gerry, Jake, John, Perry, Lloyd, Josh, Jason & Derrick with his Wife Wendy from Knives Ship Free, Chris from Great Eastern and also Dale, Orvet with his Wife and Granddaughter from over at AAPK. I can't remember when I had this much fun that cost me so much money and I never even took my boots off
They were all just outstanding comrades, after a long day of barter, with some good natured goading and teasing one another, we went to the local excellent restaurants and enjoyed a healthy meal. (well except for the bacon wrapped dates):D And then back to someones room to talk knives and inspect everyone's haul for that day.
Up with the sun, off to the local granola restaurant for buckwheat or multi-grain pancakes and eggs, (I swear I gained 6 pounds and was only there 3 days!) then off to the fairgrounds to start the whole process over! All within a dozen to 14 blocks! ! I only got lost once!! :o
Perry had the longest trek to the Inn on 5th, which reminds me Perry, within 30 seconds of dropping you off at your hotel I remembered the town where Chris lived...Kaycee, Wyo.
Saturday was the busy day, it was overcast and rained off and on which helped bring the folks indoors.
The atmosphere was thick on Saturday morning for the TC unveiling, there were 4 or 5 eager patrons waiting when we arrived. Josh was at the head of the line and I swear he had 12 to 15 tubes in front of him at 1 point. Anyone could see that he wanted to take them all home with him! I enjoyed watching the process unfold as he cautiously made he's chess moves back and forth. And to their credit the other BF'ers did their best to give him space, But of course you can only hold your water for so long before it breaks forth! It was quite enjoyable and I can certainly relate to everyone's emotions that were present.

The 40th Annual Oregon Knife Collectors Show was very well organized, the show theme was Japanese Cutlery and the swords displayed were fantastic! There were demonstrations and seminars of various crafts pertaining to cutlery. Forging, knife fighting, sharpening, scrimshaw, swordsmanship and the proper use of kitchen knives! Who knew there was a "proper" use??
Oh and don't forget the Knapping, there was a great demonstration that Perry and I slipped away for.
The staff was friendly and courteous. Which included more than a few that were "easy" on the eyes!
This years club knife, the 38 pattern (Barry posted it) was superb! The jigging is just perfect! I received #27 :D
All in all it was well worth the looooong drive, made even longer on the way home ;) but we won't go into that here.
I will try to get some pics up in the next few days, but you folks have already seen most everything I took photos of anyway.

I do have to say tho, With all the TC's that Mr. Calm-Pon-Yuh brought to this show, I'm bettin the "What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow" thread will be gaining at least another dozen pages in a very short time!!:eek::D:D

Great run down on the show Dave. I think you captured the mood, spirit and fun of the event. Real pleasure to meet you in person. I enjoyed our conversation. Lloyd

It was MY pleasure Lloyd!
You had a GREAT haul, I didn't realize just how many TC's you scored at the show until I saw your post here.

Excellent write-up, Dave! I particulary like and share your perspective that "atmosphere was thick" on Saturday morning for the great barlow unveiling. What a fun time. :)

It was great meeting you and hanging throughout the show. The same goes for my time spent with all the other forum members. I know my dad (Gerry) feels the same way.

What a great weekend! My second year of the Oregon Knife show and had fun sharing it with my son Caleb. As soon as the doors opened we made a bee-line to Charlie's table. I've admired Caleb's TC Barlows since he picked up his first one. If I had a chance to get one it would be an ebony single blade and to my surprise Charlie had one available. Made the trip worthwhile. I also picked up a Palo Santo but as soon as I showed the wife (Caleb's Mom) she claimed it as her own and I'm just fine with that! It was a lot of fun to have a chance to talk knives and life with Charlie, Barry and Dave. Top notch guys!

I also picked up this tanto blade from Blair Todd. I was drawn to the stingray skin handle and the nice copper work. I'm really enjoying the smell from the natural Port Orford cedar scabbard as it sits on my desk. 12.75"oa

Didn't get to meet you officially but did meet and talk with with your great son! Good looking knives sir!

Of course there is yet another side to Oregon. Seems a person can spend too much money on antique pocket knives, as well as recent ones!!

Here are some beauties that came home with me;

Some of these are outrageously rare and beautiful, some are ordinary and worn. All have a story to tell.

Outstanding pickups Charlie !!! :eek::eek::eek::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::)

Well done Dave! You captured the whole event great. Well here's my official booty from last weekend!
The beloved SOUP!

Were you doing any singin' on the flight home Perry, or, maybe just humming a bit ?:confused::D

Nice pics of the stash. ;)

Thanks Rob! Had to change those awful pics from earlier, not sure what happened,,,but boy they sucked!

No, I mostly slept on the way home. Oh, I was singing in my head, thats an ugly place to do it!

Nice Tanto, Gerry!!
Great reporting, Dave! You got the story to a tee!
But you didn't tell the folks about the wild geese we tried to catch while looking for Derrick's bricks and mortar store!!
All we got were splashes on the windshield to show for it! And some unwanted lessons in doing u-turns!! :o
My advice - don't follow Waynorth unless he has his GPS with him!
We found the store though "Knives Ship Free" . Nice selection of cutlery there - a few hard to find pieces of American production hanging out in the displays!

Derrick gave us a tour of KSF! We met all the nice folks who make the place run smoothly, and see that you get your knives in good time. We even saw the studio where Derrick creates his blurbs for his new releases! And I bought a new Santoku for my kitchen there - man the veggies almost dice themselves!!
Thanks Derrick!

Iron clad friction folder, an Urban defense pencil (tiny guardfather) and a Kimora!

I really wish that there was an ATM there.
