Who Would Be Interested In Doing A Collaboration Classic Hunter With Me??

Roger, you are right as rain, as usual. Micarta would work just fine. I'm just making a suggestion as to the grinding. As we discussed, the jade could be ground dry, if extreme care is taken on the heat buildup. Most of us have had plenty of hot things in our hands before, and pretty much know by feel before the item is too hot or ruined. Heck, I remember Bertha Butts,...... .

:) sounds OK with me.. :)
I mentioned before we could relieve the handle materials a little
just enough to look nice and deliberate, the Damascus etch
will decorate any of the tang ( with rounded edges) protruding around the whole handle.
this would make it an easier fit, if it doesn't have to be flush,
and if it should loosen up some with time (on the alignment pins )
it will have more room to move with out having sharp
spots if you know what I mean?

I'll go along with it since I am the least experienced of the group. I disagree though and refuse to become intimidated by a new and difficult material. With John's good advise I can make it flush and polished with the tang - if I don't break it. RL

Time for an update so all the team can see how things are progressing.

Michael, what' the picture looking like with you? Don't bother making a sample profile for me. How's it looking with you at this time?

Steve and Laredo (Sean), what's new with deciding on a mokume pattern?

Nick, what's the window to getting the steel to Michael for profile?

I can report that John has told me he hopes to have a solid grasp on getting the jade by mid-week this week and is waiting on his man to report back to him.

I have been practicing with some less than optimal damascus.

Let's keep us up to date now that things are in motion. I suggest this thread is a good place for that since it takes eleven emails now to notify all of us.

Pendentive! - where are you? We need you to get back in touch.

Thanks guys, Roger

Roger-

I am still in a holding pattern. I have sent out emails for input on the mokume pattern, but have not received any replies yet. If we don't worry about matching patterns and I can just make some straight laminate with the layers running perpendicular to the blade. Or I can hold off until the others have a chance to provide some input.

You are the Boss;) , just let me know. I am ready to go.

Still here, Roger.

Did you want this done now, or at the end? I was hoping to get a look at the finished product first.

I don't think it would be a good idea to send the certificate along with the knife. It needs to be in its own package - where I can keep it flat. After it's finished, we just send it around to everybody to have them sign it.

Let me know if there is anything else you need from me.

Dan

I'm here! Whoever needs the "practice" profiles, shoot me an e-mail with your addresses. I'll get them out tonight, or tommorrow at the latest.

Hey all, I got an email from Steve and we are in agreement about just using straight laminate for the mokume.

How does that sound?

If I don't hear anything to change that by tomorrow afternoon, I will make up the initial billet tomorrow night. Well that is if I can remember how to light the forge. It has been a while.;)

You know it has been a while since you have worked on a knife when you get the feeling back in your fingertips and the hair on your arms starts to grow back.

Hmmmm, seems like I remember loosing some eyelashes too. Well the left ones are shorter that the right ones anyway.

Safety first! Man I try to live by that.;)

Hi Guys
I just got that e-mail I just replied to it..
I'm thinking the mokume should be as complicated as the Damascus.
I don't think it should take from or lend to the rest, but balance each other out.
just My thoughts...it's going to be good....
:D

Guys-

I've sent out several emails trying to get an answer on pattern and nobody has replied. Now everybody's saying they're waiting on me?!?!#$?!*(%^#(&*%!?!!?!?!!?!*%#)%U#_%*?!%(*@!!#%^!!+*^%_@#*?!?!?!

I didn't want to start the steel until I knew exactly what you all wanted.

My dad was thrown into the hospital yesterday morning and that just took precedence over everything anyway.

Please let me know what you guys want to see in the steel :D

Nick

Sorry Nick
I got no e-mail from you? :(
I don't mind what it is but I would like to see the
Mokume close to the same,, just 2 cent here..

I hope your father is alright -- don't worry about the damascus until everything is worked out there.

I don't know if you've e-mailed me, but I didn't receive anything.

As far as pattern goes, it depends on how that mammoth finishes up. If it is ends up with the "squares" like it currently look, I think the pattern should represent the same style with a blocky deep contrast look. Of course, it can't be too wide a "layering" of the names wouldn't stand out. Just my 2 cents though.

Guys-

I sent the emails in a "mass mail" type with everybody's email inserted that is involved.

I guess nobody got them

I just wanted everybody to be happy with it.

Thanks!
Nick

Mine is correct!

Graymaker -- You just have my name by the "page 1" picture. Steve created the picture on his computer based on my drawing. No biggie, I just want him to get credit for his work on it. :D

Nick, mine is correct as listed on BF. I got an email from but I don't think it was a mass mailing. And hey I was not impling that you (or anybody) was slacking.;)

I will do what the team thinks is best for the mokume pattern. Until then I will put her back in idle and hold tight until we get it all figured out.
