Who Would Be Interested In Doing A Collaboration Classic Hunter With Me??

Steve thanks for the colored pics. I like the bottom one with an even smaller almost no ricasso at all because the names will now be on the blade. Can you post another pic for us with a very small ricasso? Thanks Bruce

OK, this better?

You know Fowler isn't going to be happy about that Bruce.

Again you have to use your imagination. The bolser curves and details are probably not exactly what Burchtree wanted. I pasted in a copy of Roger's actual ivory. Thought that might help.

Steve

Bruce and all of us. I thought I had outlined the various tasks here several days back. Perhaps I did not put them all down at one time on a single post.

Bruce got it correct and here is the way I had figured it:

Bruce: All etching and technical direction

Dave: blade grind

Michael: design and blank profiling

Steve: design and blade finish prior to etching

Jay: sheath

Roger: HT and handle profiling (afix jade and scales to tang, grind handle profile)

Dan: ALL OTHER handle work including shaping that he does not assign to me

Nick: damascus

John: jade aqusition, shaping, cutting and drilling

Dan: Certificate of Origin

Sorry, perhaps I had not tryed well enough before to make these clear to all. I really did think we were all aware of these assignments.

Roger

Steve, I like the bottom one best too. I would suggest only two scale pins.

John, no jade bolsters. 1/16th liners. liners for scales only, not for bolsters front or back.

RL

I like the bottom one too -- I think that's pretty much what we're going for isn't it?

Michael, The way I read Bruce's last post on that - YES. Now that Bruce suggests a smaller ricasso the total blade length will probably go down from 5 inches. EMAIL BRUCE for final total length and final blade length specs. Post the specs. when you got'em. Thanks

Roger

OK Gang,

Here's the adjustments you were looking for. 2 Pins and a ruler for measurement. Yes it looks like the blade is about 4.25"

I believe they still match Burchtree's design! Other than the ricasso change.

Steve, Now we're getting stuff done that we can start making determinations with. Super job Steve and Michael!!

Now get some exact handle dimensions, length and width - tip of tang to back of ricasso. When Bruce signs off on it Nick will have what he needs and Dan can start figuring lengths on bolsters and scales. When he tells me scale length I can take the leash off John.

Thanks big time.

RL

woohoo -- Thanks Steve, that's a pretty good program you've got there. Does your program have it full size to print off and do exact measurements, or should I revise my drawing when I get home and give the measurements?

If you have some picture print software you should be able to print to scale.

If you print this picture at 10", everything should be fine. You can use it for a template:

After Bruce says OK.

Steve

Gee Burchtree I might have to make your design for myself (without the expensive materials!).

If everyone gives it the go ahead, that would be great, because everyone could print one off and get a "feel" for the blade. (don't worry, I'll still be grinding down some mild-steel blanks ;) )

Michael, with nothing but the greatest respect for all team members, it is too late to wait around for all of us to drop in after various work shifts from our regular jobs to give various and sundrie opinions. Except for actual blade length since the ricasso has gotten shorter - Bruce has specified and you, Steve and I say go. Can you get us actual handle length to back of ricasso and maximum tang width this evening??

Thanks Michael, Pretty soon you can sit back and watch the rest of us grunt.

RL

Alright, let's go with it. I'll give some specs tonight -- I think it's going to be a dandy little blade.

Oh Roger I can help there since I have the software.

Blade from tip to bolster is 4.4"
Handle from butt to bolster is 4.9"
Total length is 9.3"

Of course this is hand work so you could just say:

Blade from tip to bolster is 4.5"
Handle from butt to end of bolster is 5"
Total length is 9.5"

I added some lines to the template picture. That should help witht he width dimentions. The steel looks to be a bit wider than 1.5", but that could be fudged while profiling.

So the steel blank should be about 1.5" by 10" by ?" thick.

Steve

GOOD! Now, Steve verify your figures with Michael. Michael, sign off on or correct with Steve. Steve, Let me know here on a post that its a go.

We are stepping right along.

Great work both of you. RL

While I'm thinking of it: A good source for sterling plate or bar stock?? Let's do as Bruce suggests and go that way for bolsters. Any one out there watching this thing can donate some too. They will be recognized on the cert..

That should be correct. If it's "traced" it should be the exact same specs as the mine (minus the ricasso) so it's a go on my end. If I find anything different tonight, I'll let you all know.

Steve -- thanks a bunch, that saved me some time tonight!

Michael, Outstanding! In case for some reason Bruce does not see these last few posts, I will email him now. If I or you do not hear from him concerning these specifications by 7:30PM EST, you can start up your band saws and grinders AT WILL - at your liking. I will take responsibility if Bruce sees a glitch. Its my call. Besides, he wants things going and I think he will forgive me.

Profile design is DONE.

STEVE: I neglected to add 'blade design' to the list for you. My oversight. I will correct that and also email Dan K. with that correction for the cert..

Roger

Hey guys, looks like you have a great project going on here. I have not had time to read thru all posts yet, but if you all need some jade, I have a piece here that you could cut some liners out of.

The piece is about 2 x 2 x 5 inches. I can send it to whoever is going to get it cut, you can use what you need, and send the remaining chunk back to me. It is the same stuff I used on that cable fighter.

Also, If you all decide to go with mokume for the bolsters, let me know and I will offer that too.

7mm, you're a treasure. that's large enough alright. Hate to look a gift horse in the mouth - is it cobalt blue?? Anyhow, I'll email the jade man (John Andrews) about your very kind offer and get back to you. What color is it?

Thanks! RL
