Why all the MANTIS Hate???

BTW, I assume your 99.9% figure was obtained after rigorous research. What was your sample size and what was your demographic?

My point? Quoting nonsense statistics is not a great way to reinforce your argument.

yup. unverifiable, and grossly skewed.

I have been trying to upload pics to my computer for a week, and it will not work. I was actually more interested in pictures of my baby than knives, but regardless, it won't work. Sorry if you don't believe me, but I really don't care what the hell you believe.

I have a Gil Hibben custom Rambo III. Is that so hard to believe????? Why do you even care? Are you seriously questioning me being a knife collector? Isn't this a knife forum?
You people are so un-trusting, were you abused as children or something? Get ovet it. Would you like me to list every knife that I own? I don't have that much time, but here is a few.... Custom mirror polished Buck BuckMaster 184, one of between 250 and 300. No one knows exactly how many were made, but that is the answer I got from the guy who runs the custom shop at Buck. Also Have a Buckmaster LT 185, about 6000 made. Another second production BuckMaster 184. Buck 187, and 189. Gerber BMF. Chris Reeve Aviator, Cold Steel Tanto, Master Tanto, Mini Tanto, Recon 1, Ti Lite, Gil Hibben Negotiator, one of 100. The entire Gil Hibben Shadow Series. The list goes on... I even have some super special Frost Cutlery junk. I got a Buck/Strider 881 tanto in my pocket right now, a CRKT titanium M16 sitting on my table, right next to my Mantis MF-1 Pry Bar, and MF-4 Chaos, and I am waiting for my Chaos folder to arrive in the mail. S30V blade, Ti liners, and G-10 handles. I got some Cold Steel Spikes that I pimped out, did some cool file-work, and mirror polish, wanna buy one? I have a couple grinders and various other knifemaking tools in my garage, I am just starting out making knives. Is there anything else you would like to know about me? My favorite color is blue.... I like long walks on the beach....Mexican food... And I don't give a rats ass what you think or say, I like Mantis Knives, I like Jared West, and I am not SPAMMING! If you guys really hate me that much then I will just go away. I will find some nice people to talk to, they are out there. Thought there might be some here, but haven't found any yet, cause I happen to like Mantis, and you don't. I thought maybe we could all get along, because we all have one thing in common, we all like knives. Just because we don't like the same ones, does that mean we can't be friends??? That would be pretty damn childish, don't you think?

Yep, you're wrong. Spam is when some scumbag floods, or incites others to flood, your mailbox, newsgroup, forum or anything else with crap that you do not want. You are, in effect, vandalising somebody else's property.
This is why I would never buy a Mantis knife, regardless of how good or cheap it might be. I don't buy things from scumbags. No, I'm not suggesting that all Mantis knife owners are scumbags, I'm sure the majority are perfectly OK people who thought they were getting a good deal. It wouldn't even have been a problem if a few of them spontaneously decided to post some messages telling us what they liked about the knives. Unfortunately the clown that owns the company decided to launch a spam campaign against knife forums, thereby earning the contempt of everyone which resulted in anyone posting anything about his products, no matter how innocently, being tarred with the same brush. So, not only has this idiot destroyed his own reputation on knife forums but he's caused his customers to be regarded with great suspicion as well.

So, it's pretty simple really, I don't hate the knives but I do hate scumbags who spam. I suspect this might be the same for most here.

A couple of reasons. If INDIVIDUALS wanted to say what they thought, no problem. If a dealer wants to advertise or sell his products here he can buy a dealer membership and do so legitimately. Inciting others to spam is not a legitimate way of advertising your products.

BTW, I assume your 99.9% figure was obtained after rigorous research. What was your sample size and what was your demographic?

I have only heard of ONE unsatisfied customer.

I have only heard of ONE unsatisfied customer.

Statistically, also meaningless. However, you've moved away from the main point of your argument, why do people hate Mantis knives. As has been explained to you, it's not the knives themselves that people hate, that's not the issue, it's the unethical advertising campaign the owner of the company decided to launch, that is the issue. Maybe everyone who owns one of those knives thinks they're great, fine, no problem with that. The problem is the owner of the company, not the quality, or otherwise, of the knives. Do you see the difference?

I don't give a rats ass what you think or say.....
:foot::barf:

apparently you do , else you would not be trying to argue your case.

If you want to hold someone responsible for all the people pointing and laughing at Mantis knives , call yer bud Jared up and bend his ear.

Mantits :thumbdn:

Yeah, I see the difference. What I do not understand is why it is so bad for someone to want their satisfied customers to talk about their experience. Why is it such a big problem that Mr. West asked his supporters to tell people how happy they are with the knives and customer service. Seriously, what is so wrong with that?

If I had my own knife company, and the buyers were happy with their purchase, I would want them to tell others. Why is that so wrong? Why does it piss people off so bad? I honestly do not see it as something so wrong, and I just don't get why so many others do. Please explain to me why this make you so upset.

Made4blade,

If you had just bothered to post a little more about yourself and your collection, like you did above, from the get go, instead of SPAMMING Mantis during "Operation Bravo," I don't think you'd be having your credibilty questioned now. Heck, you seem like a decent knifeknut to me.

Stick around, read and post, learn a few things, develop some relationships, and enjoy! Just don't go too hardcore on the Manits stuff.

since you seem to be the only one that is unbothered, why should everyone else have to explain their position? again, and again, and again,....

all evidence to the contrary.

Thank you. I was not even aware of this forum until I heard of it from Mantis. It is true that I like Mantis, but I like a lot of other knives as well. I found out about them in an article in Tactical Knives. I saw the MF-1 and MF-4, and I really liked them, so I bought them. I think it would be best for all involved to just drop the whole spam thing and move on to other topics.

Simple as this M4B...

Mantits offered a free knife to those who would go to the forums and post their tall tales.
Why didn't they just set up a blog on their own webspace and have all the story tellers post there ? Telling customers HOW and WHERE to spread the word isn't something you will find makers or knife companies doing.

So yes , telling people to post on certain forums , was indeed SPAM , and a terrible black eye for them. Worse yet , for customer who are actually fans of their knives , it now made them the laughing stock of collectors world wide.

Now there is a knife company to be proud of , send them more money and carry their knives with pride if that is what you like. The rest of us will be laughing about this for years to come.

Face it : The Mantits Knife Co. sold you out as part of a marketing scheme. If you are too blind to see it clear as day , then you won't ever see it.

If I had my own knife company, and the buyers were happy with their purchase, I would want them to tell others. Why is that so wrong? Why does it piss people off so bad? I'm having a little difficulty understanding why you don't see the problem. As 3G says, you're probably an OK guy in all other respects so I assume you're not just trolling.

I'll try again, I'm not sure I can make it any simpler though.

Hoping people will tell others they like your knives is not a problem. I'm quite certain the owners of other knife companies, like Sal from Spyderco for instance, appreciate the support they get from their loyal customers.

However, what Sal, and the other reputable knife makers DON'T do is send out emails to their customers telling them to get on every knife forum they can and spam them with messages in the hope that they will win a free knife. This is SPAMMING. This is unethical.

Even more simply put:

Hoping your customers will spread the good word, (which they will do if you have good products and conduct yourself honestly), is fine, no problem there.

Telling your customers they will win a free knife if they spam forums is NOT nice, reputable or ethical.

If you can't see the difference between those two scenarios, I give up.

So it wasn't the best move to make. Obviously Jared West was not too familiar with exactly how the forums worked. Do you really gotta hate the guy for it? All he was doing was trying to make people aware of the fact that nearly all of his customer are very happy. Maybe not the best marketing plan, but I don't know why it caused so much hate. Can you really blame the guy for trying to make a successful business?? Everyone makes mistakes. Contrary to popular belief, he is a good decent guy, and a knife nut just like the rest of us.

OK, you win, I give up.

Evidence to the contrary of WHAT?

uhh....

read the portions of your post i highlighted. you said twice that you dont care what anyone thinks.

if that is true, why the continued attempts to defend your position that mantis did nothing wrong?

you clearly have selective reading.

it has been explained numerous times why so many here were so annoyed with his tactics.

It's not collecting???? Then what would you call it? Stock piling?

No, Someone trying to amass enough crap to open a Junk Yard!!:D:p

The great Red Foxx did not keep Mantis knives in his junkyard. He preferred higher class junk...................
