Why all the MANTIS Hate???

So it wasn't the best move to make. Obviously Jared West was not too familiar with exactly how the forums worked. Do you really gotta hate the guy for it? All he was doing was trying to make people aware of the fact that nearly all of his customer are very happy. Maybe not the best marketing plan, but I don't know why it caused so much hate. Can you really blame the guy for trying to make a successful business?? Everyone makes mistakes. Contrary to popular belief, he is a good decent guy, and a knife nut just like the rest of us.

I assume you are a young man. I am not a young man, but I am at least somewhat aware of current marketing techniques. I know that in some markets it is fashionable and expected to hire people who will talk up a product in chat rooms and in blogs. But that only works in a young demographic. It works well with teens because they expect it and have no problem with it.

Bladeforums is NOT made up of that demographic, especially the knife reviews and testing section, where several of you posted. We do not and will not operate that way. We do not want paid announcements. And people vying for a free knife are being paid by the chance to win that knife, so do not tell me they are not being paid. We do not want SPAM. NO other company does it.

Mr. West markets his knives to a certain demographic, young teen males. You can see that from the designs and the prices. He mistakenly assumed that BladeForums was made up of that demographic and that we would not mind being spammed.

When I go into a store and am dissed by the staff, I don't go back. Mr. West has Dissed us by spamming us using paid spammers. He has offended us. Now there are no Mantis knives that I care for, but after being dissed, I would never buy one even if I found one that I liked. There are too many knives offered by better companies run by people who have not spammed my friends and me.

Makes you wish these guys would just open their eyes and look around.

Defending these antics and asking what is wrong, just illustrates what is going on and who is doing it.

I certainly don't hate him. I just think he isn't brightest bulb on the tree.

The people that own his knives should be making those posts without the need to be bribed with a free knife.

Just for your information, the contest has been over since July 4th. Notice the dates of my recent posts??? It's not about getting a free knife. What I am saying is all totally honest. I would not waste my time telling "tall tales", as one member put it. I am doing this because I truley believe in the knives, and the company owner.

I am not a teenager, and I do not believe Mr. West "dissed' anyone. I am 36 years old, and I still like his knives. Another one of his biggest fans that I know is 42.

We have all voiced our opinions on this. It is obvious that we are not going to completely agree. How about we just call a truce. I have said everything that I wanted to say, I am done with this topic. Thank you all for listening.

Here's a suggestion for you.

If you want to discuss pretty much any other knives, EXCEPT Mantis knives, this is a great place to do it. As long as you're not trying to shill or troll or suchlike annoyances, you will find people here will be happy to talk on pretty much any subject.

If you want to talk about Mantis knives then I'd suggest that you might need to find another forum where your friend isn't regarded as an ethics free cockroach. Unfortunately his stupidity has ruined his reputation here and any discussion about him or his knives is simply going to end up the way this thread has. That's the way it is, you may think it's unfair but it's your choice how you handle it from now on.

This forum has over 100,000 members, at least 5% of those are going to be more or less active at any time. They can fit into the culture, can you?

Sorry, my camera cord is broke, I can't upload pics to my computer. Can I see pics of your knives?

I have been trying to upload pics to my computer for a week, and it will not work. I was actually more interested in pictures of my baby than knives, but regardless, it won't work. Sorry if you don't believe me, but I really don't care what the hell you believe.

Cords for cameras cost less than a Mantis knife for God's sake!!!

I smell that duck again....................

Go to Best Buy, Target, Walmart... buy a card reader. Most will take multiple forms of cards from cameras, cell phones, PDAs...

I think you are BSing.

I would really love to see some of your $1000 knives and your Manti.

Why do so many of the knives on the Mantis site have those horrid, bright pink dodads on them? Even some of the fixed blades. Is this just for the website or are these actual pics of the knives?

Possibly 15 year old mall ninjas find them attractive or tactical or ... something.

Some folks just take longer to grow up.

Great story, however, your praise of said company and owner would have gone down much easier if you would have posted your praise shortly after joining BFC and not after receiving the "Pimp My Shit" e-mail from the dumb ass owning Mantis Knives. The prevalence of juvenile, giggly-girl, romper-room mentality, which has plagued this and other forums, after dumb ass released his "Pimp My Shit" e-mail was uncalled for and doesn't shed a good light on "dumb ass" or his [cough]Militia[cough].

The sad part. . . .the [cough]Militia[cough] expects other knife gathers to accept the "dumb ass" as the knife world Messiah and God's gift to all knife forums. While you (the [cough]Militia[cough] collectively) think his shit smells like roses, will kiss his rosy ass and feet, frame chunks of ground he's walked on, and orally wash the thongs he wears. . . . .don't expect the rest of us (again, collectively) to follow suit. So. . . . .give it a God damn rest !

made4blade, if you are done with this topic then start another one. talk about a good brand of knife made by an honest maker and not some lowlife who tells his followers to spam websites because his knives are junk and he has to unload them on unsuspecting mall ninjas that believe his knives are great.
hard h20, thoes pink doodads are there to attract mall ninjas:D its also a warning to normal people that the knife is junk;):D

They're not really pink -- they're more of a metallic red or even magenta. Jared has said in interviews that he is a design student and wanted to do something different and distinctive; certainly there is a cohesive design element that not only ties the Mantis line but also distinguishes it from other blades on the market (though this is not a good thing if you don't like the aesthetics he has chosen, obviously).

They look like something a student would draw up. They look like they have a lot of superfluous garbage.

Why would I want a bunch of pink bushings protruding from the handle? Looks like a marketing driven design feature and not a feature added to enhance the usability of the tool. Sure stands out in pictures.

The only ones that
look like anything I would buy or use are the Phil A. and the Seymour.
