You tell em John!!!!!!

Cold steel sucks and so does Lynn
I wonder where Ole Velcro's been
Lynn is fat and this thread is old
It's so old that it's grown some mold
Who gives a FU*K about Cold steel knives
Most of us live a normal life
we not wannabe's and wish to be's
We can walk the mall without inside rubbing of our knees
We can reach around to wipe our butts
We can go in peace as healthy knifeknuts

In answer to the original post, I must say that the thread and passioned responses show that Mr. Thompson and his products are nothing if not controversial. While neither a connoisseur nor owner of CS knives I have noticed that some of their designs are based on classics from other makers, his videos are a bit graphic, and he is very opinionated. However, many knifemakers have versions of classics such as Randall, Loveless Drop Point Hunter or Subhilt Fighter, Emerson CQC-6, or Buck 110 both identified as such and not. Personally, I'm not a fan of the meat slashing videos (though I watched). I think it just shows his marketing to a particular crowd similar to other makers marketing to hunters/fishermen, campers, special ops military, survival, or police/firefighters. The real reason I think he is so controversial though is his comments re other makers and knives. Some people are very loyal to a particular brand, knife, or maker, and when such are disparaged they respond in kind. Just my 2 cents.

yea and what do you guys have? spyderco? ha cold steel is freakin great all u cs hates prolly carry a knife(most likely a piece of crap) because u need it for protection cuz u tick so many ppl off

Tomahawk23, how nice to have you back from the depths! I must admit, however, your spelling and capitalization tricks aren't fooling me one bit. I can smell shark food a mile away, especially when the agenda hasn't changed!;)

You guys all need to watch the Solid Proof DVD. I just got the CS catalog with this DVD and you honestly don't know how great LT is. The videos illustrate just how hilarious a fat man in a tie wielding a sword can be. He gives a huge 'HIIIYAAA', chops a pant-leg stuffed with pork chops, and then gets this look on his face that reminds me of an infant taking a crap. The ominous, red-faced stare of a giant toddler captivates the viewer like no other fat guy can. Honestly, I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. It gets even better when he starts to show you how to defend yourself with a spear. That's right, a spear makes and excellent SD weapon, practicality be damned. Shooting plastic Gila Monsters in the neck with a blow gun? Oh yeah. There's really too much hilarity to list and you should really watch it for yourself. If you are lucky enough to get the DVD that shows them demonstrating the pepper spray, definitely watch that one too. These savants hose almost their entire staff in the face with pepper spray!
I think haters are missing the point. Cold Steel doesn't make knives for any other reason than to put them in comedy sketches. They just have them available for sale so that you too can be like Lynn Thompson and chop a pig in half with a cavalry sabre or go car stabbing on a saturday night.

I did a search on Lynn, saw this thread, and since I am a member here, I thought I'd resurrect it to answer the OP's (or anyone else that cared to search) question. Go check out the tests of some of his products at http://www.knifetests.com/ and see what you think. That guys calls the $16. Kukri a "poor man's Battle Mistress" in the remarks section of his last video in the series. You don't think that pisses some people off that paid around 25 times as much? He's not skinny. So what? I don't get man crushes on other dudes, and don't need to have a father figure to feel good about my knife. As for the "mall ninja" stuff, how many times have you seen posts where guys have all this equipment that they've spent loads of cash on to pretend that they're a CIA-seal-ninja-"operator"? Calling Cold Steel owners/fans "mall ninjas", and then spending yourself into poverty buying tacti-cool toys that you have absolutely no real world use for is kind of hypocritical, imo. That, in my opinion, is why there's so much venom towards him: when people are playing dress-up/let's pretend, they don't want to be reminded that they're playing dress-up/let's pretend, and that they could never be that super badass in real life. If they spent 25 times what a guy that buys Cold Steel pays, it just makes these guys feel more legit; like they're really in with the big boys. The rest of the haters are probably just his competitors.

I think The Great Hockey Mask is a buffoon.

You're kidding, right? No, you're doing exactly what you accuse them of doing: living in a fantasy world. Only your fantasy is that you're a mind reader, who knows what people think -- when you don't even know who they are.

Let me point out that this is the FEEDBACK forum, not Whine & Cheese. Be careful with the personal insults.

More mind-reading. You have no idea who they are. You're making all this up as you go along.

Actually, Lynn Thompson is the one who put an attack on a competitor on his website. Not cool.

:thumbup::thumbup:

I generally believe that the internet is an incredible resource for researching, well, anything about anything. And then there are people, like the hockey mask fella, who can almost be taken as microcosmic examples of all that is wrong with the internet. An amateur doing uncontrolled and undefined and usually poorly executed so-called tests for the "benefit" of those who know even less than he, thereby influencing their opinions and creating absurd expectations. I might watch the videos but I'd never base my purchasing decisions upon his conclusions.

As for CS, I'm sure that they make some good products as I've heard from people whose opinons actually have value (EB being one of them) that this is so. My own limited experience is otherwise but that alone is hardly enough to base an opinion on.

The first guy is a "buffoon", I'm a mind reader.... Not once did I say "you" or specifically refer to anyone on this site by name. I would suggest you take your own advice.

Let's see. you dug up a 5 month old thread to defend someone you don't even know, talk smack about people you know nothing about but lump into some fantasy category. AND then Talk smack to one of the most respected members here who happens to be a SuperMod. And we're supposed to take you seriously.

How do you know that I don't know him? What smack would that be? Asking a "super mod" not to insult me? You guys are really friendly around here. :jerkit:

non sequitur.

you expect others to be friendly, but you have no such requirement?

How were you insulted? He was pointing out the fallacy of your statement. You get what you give around here. I would suggest you read more.
