Why Do People Say Lynn C. Thompson Is Controversial

Standing up for your rights, and inviting unneeded attention, are at different section of the spectrum.

No, they're really not, and herein lies the problem. When we adopt that attitude, we have already lost. Standing up for your rights very often requires you to assume risk and to "invite unneeded attention." That's how it works. But I do thank you for your calm input into this issue, and for your compliments. I wish more people I disagreed with had your class.

Ya'll are missing the point...

Cold Steel actually makes nothing. Nothing.... case closed :)

There is no crime in Vegas. It's a gentle kindler town ;)
Now North Las Vegas , it gets a little ruff over there.
The PD there , and Boulder City don't put up with much , you look like you don't belong , you will be checked out.

Never get into a game of " Gat , paper , scissors ".. Gat wins.

FYI: I roll solo , less witness's.

We looked at some condos in Summerlin at the Ridges. They are coming down in price alot. I would like to get a place in Summerlin, I was told that is a very good area of the city. It is way out near Red Rock Canyon and is beautiful out there.

Phil,

I think you are getting closer to realizing my stance for what it truly is, I apologize if I havent been articulating my position clearly, I obviously do far less writing than you do.

It's not the attention drawn, its the manner in which the attention is attained. "Bone crushing zombie slaying" will be taken as radical and defeated by mainstream culture as radical and extremist (Im sick of seeing those words too).

Defending our rights to carry a tool with a daily purpose and justifying that stance is, in my opinion, a winning position.

I believe I have read in your writings that you live in an area that does not allow concealed firearms (correct me if I am wrong)...is that right?

P.S. - There is no reason for two reasonable and intelligent adults to turn a debate into an argument. I will not dismiss anyone's stance just because I don't agree.

yup , and not far from the Desert Sportsman Gun & Rifle club , and there are a couple knife shops around there. Depends on what side of the valley you work on , commuting 19 miles from Henderson into Vegas can take me 25 minutes if I leave for work early in the am , if I leave around 8 , 45 minutes , all freeway too :(

Traffic sux here.

I know, I go every year. It sure is nice looking at those mountains all around. I would like to live there Dec.-May. I love it out there. I wouldn't go into the bad areas at night if I could help it. There are some very good restaurants and great shows and boxing matches. You get good exercise walking in the casinos and shops too.

68 posts and only about 4 addressed the OP!

The coldsteel controversies:

-The advertisement videos - mentioned
-The vagrant ripping off of designs that are characteristic of existing and still producing makers (mentioned)
-The crazy antics and flame wars between Lynn Thomson and Strider knives
-The marketing and expense of San Mai as a quality laminated steel
-The notoriusly bad reputation for service and warranty claims

I know it is expensive but I sure do like the Cold Steel Sisu. It looks really nice. I know you can get better, but if I can find one for a good price I would get one. I have a Trailmaster Bowie, which is pretty good too.

Get back to the topic or take it to W&C.

Edit: Isn't the topic about why CS has the hate?

Like any big company that wants the $$ they branch out into many markets steal ideas follow fads appeal to where the easy $$ is. I agree that a lot of their stuff is crap and some of their marketing which follows: "insert CS knife description that appeals to young boys who just watched Rambo" but that's big business regardless of their product. Same for idea stealing and the shit of a customer service.

I do like some of their stuff but they do have some crappy quality control on the good things.

Its funny I just recently moved out here from the LA area and I love the Vegas traffic. Nothing like SoCal. now that traffic sucks.

Comparing it to when I moved here in 86 , the traffic sux.
Locals avoid the strip like the plague.

And it better warm up before the subgun match Sunday !

do you think that you could survive when a real Crip run up on your car and flex the 9?

how do ya know i havent??

AFAIK no crips, bloods, zetas/etc have a patent on a 9 (or anything else for that matter). other folks might have one too lol.

possibly something better than a 9 too FWIW.........

but hey i feel ya...........

i don't beleive that they can take their laredo bowie, chop through how many pieces of wood, and it's still shaving sharp...1,200 cuts of manilla rope isn't an easy task-especially with a knife sharpened once

-if it wasnt for their videos, other's designs, and the fact that people are willing to pay 80 bucks for an AUS8 blade, they wouldn't be here today...that's the plain truth

Knives really aren't weapons anymore. Until they become swords really. There is no purpose of a sword other than to be a weapon. But knives... even large ones are tools. Because they can do harm doesn't mean anything. Because there are branches of the martial arts (hundreds sometimes thousands of years old mind you) dedicated to them is meaningless. I can kill a man with a flashlight if I have to, yet I heard them refered to in this thread as a "Tactical Tool" which I swear to God I'm so sick of Mall Ninjas and the term Tactical that I could puke, but a flashlight is still not considered a weapon. Neither is a chair. or a Baseball bat, or ice pick, or 6 feet of heavy chain. Until you do harm with them. Then legally speaking the become weapons. But you're still using a tool to inflict harm. I have no problem with someone carrying a knife for self defense... if that's what you want to do then have at it. But do not kid yourself into thinking that that knife is going to protect you in a real world situation. It is rare and a fluke when such happens. And the romance of the idea of protecting yourself with a blade is born of ninja movies and the like. Doesn't work that way in the real world. Chances are... someone is gonna hit you from behind, or attack you in numbers, and rarely is one man gonna attack another man bare handed (Bringing a knife to a gun fight). Sure a purse snatcher might go in without a weapon against an old lady. And the ocassional homeless person might grab at you out of desperation and a little exposure sickness... But if someone means you harm... they are going to be serious about it and do it in a way to yield as much hurt to you with as little exposure to them. And a knife is a bad thing to be stuck with. I try not to go anywhere where I can't carry my gun. And sometimes I even carry it where I'm not supposed to.
