Why Do People Say Lynn C. Thompson Is Controversial

They don't mean to be disrespectful. Some people are just ignorant and never get outside of their little comfort zone with different people who act in different ways... it's easier to marginalize someone different and call them stupid or trash than to try get a flavor of their culture.

It's a garbage culture if it glorifies violence through music or the media, breaks down the family unit, demeans women, butchers up the king's written and spoken English until it is no longer decipherable, runs from any societal responsibility, and it holds these attributes up as something to aspire to. :thumbdn:

Wait.

The same can also be mostly said of the W & C sub forum. :D

Wondering if a one Mr. Lynn Thompson wears baggies and his cap tilted and to the side...

Cold Steel threads tend to turn into monsters. But this one really took a strange turn.

That being said, Cold Steel threads are like soap series on TV. You can miss several pages and still know what it's about.

Kind regards,

Jos

sorry , neither of your rules apply , the rules that apply here are the forum rules , which are by Spark and the admin team.

If they say " No gangsta talk " , then that is it , it's their house , their rules.
If they don't mind , why would anyone else try to stop someone from talking (virtually ) in the way they do ?

People , ( myself included ) , bag on CS , LT , Dork Ops , Mantis , etc.... so we can't expect any different coming back at us. You want to rip someone else up , be prepared to endure some shots when it comes back around.

Just remember to not take it too seriously when it comes back around.

You give & you will get , just roll with it.

+ 1 to both of you. At least there are some who will stand up and be counted on these threads.

BF constantly has these 'flog a dead horse' threads; in reality, who really cares one way or the other. Nothing ever comes to an end because this will be regurgitated in 6 months again.

As far as Lynn is concerned, I will never buy any of his knives because he has gone to such ends to be negative about other manufacturers. He can jump up and down in his spandex suit and act like the village idiot all he wants.

It's a garbage culture if it glorifies violence

Like say Hockey? Or UFC? Or Boxing? Three sports many enjoy.

breaks down the family unit

That's a long gone ideal my friend. There are probably more single mothers out there than actual family units... and it ain't got anything to do with rap music. It's got to do with limp wristed parents that give their children time out instead of a good beating.

demeans women

In the eye of the beholder my friend. Do you read Playboy ever? Ever look at porn? Some say that is demeaning to women... is your culture garbage?

butchers up the king's written and spoken English until it is no longer decipherable

You know Brits accuse all Americans of doing this to their language... America in general has bastardized the kings english.

runs from any societal responsibility

Again... not the only portion of American culture as a whole that does this.

it holds these attributes up as something to aspire to

Much in the same way some guys here will go buy the knife they saw in the new James Bond movie cause they same him kill a guy with it and look good doing it?

All I'm saying is... spend a little more time in your own back yard and maybe think twice about telling others how to care for theirs.

Actually that would be fascism.

So let me get this straight... I have to accept his "culture" but he isn't accepting or adapting to the culture of this forum...therein lies the rub.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh there is the real rub... accepting and adapting to are two completely different things aren't they. First I was unaware that this forum had a culture other than knife lovers. Didn't know there was a certain way to talk walk or carry one's self as a member of this forum. Second... you jumped your own shark... You should try to accept someone else's culture and be tolerant... no one has the right to expect someone else to adapt to their culture. No one asked of you that you adapt to his culture... only that you be tolerant of it. You just accept the difference and maybe try to find a little common ground... like say a love for knives... I thought that in and of itself was the purpose for this forum. So a Gangsta type and a redneck could find common ground in their love for blades. Not insist that one begin speaking and acting like the other or face a good lashing.

Is gangsta talk against the forum rules?

God, I wish I could be an idealist. Damn reality.:D

Wrong. American gov't is a representative democracy.

Right, but we elect leaders that are to make decisions in the interest of the people as a whole... not the majority that voted them in. That's the way it's become... but that's not the way America was in her beginiings.

Wrong. Everything about this country is majority rule.

No it isn't... there are basic civil rights... Do you know what would have happened if Civil Rights for African Americans was brought up to vote? Do you know what would have happened if the right for African Americans to marry Whites had come up for majority vote... I can tell you African Americans wouldn't have gotten any rights. Our elected officals make laws and choices based on what is best for all the people. Not the majority. Sometimes you have to think about the many rather than the few... But as often as possible one should think about what is best for all.

Wrong. That would be socialism.

Wrong... it would be a Republic. By the people and for the people... remember. Read your history.

Basic Psychology 101: If you join a social group, you either conform to the norm, or become ostracized for refusal to conform. No one here has to accept or tolerate the mindless violent spewing BS of someone who is trolling a thread.

I agree... in playgrounds and zoos... I thought we were civilized people here. After this why don't we all get together and go pick on the fat kid, or the gay man. C'mon... who's with me?

I agree, there are a lot of backward ignorant people out there. Which is why the little fat kid will always get beat up, and the gay guy will get beaten to death, people will turn a blind eye to anyone they consider different.

Wow, that was an impressive speech but it just doesn't change the reality that he can say what he wishes as can we. If we want to question the way he talks, we have the right to do so.

But nice try.

Edit: Since when does questioning someone about trying to sound cool on the interweb equate to punching them in the nose.

Yet again, nice try.

It was the old your fist my nose analogy. Didn't mean to imply that you were trying to become violent.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I applaud your sentiment. Unfortunately, it's just not the reality.

I think your reading way too much into peoples comments here.

Severedthumbs is most likely a pretty good guy. I think some of the things he says here are for dramatic effect and I find it annoying. When every third post of his is clear, concise and well written and the others are a weak gangsta attempt, it puts up the flag so to speak.

Sorry, but terms like "rollin' up flexin' the 9" are hardly cultural, it's overdone, polluted slang knowingly used for effect. When questioned, he says it's subconsious and he does it without realizing.

He can say anything he wants, I'm not going to "punch him in the nose", but if I want to question it I will.

And you can feel free to try and play Karma police over it.:p

No no... I agree, questioning things is a good thing. It's how we learn. And I'm not defending him. I in particular do not subscribe to that culture myself. And I'm not even questioning noting the differences in culture in an open forum. That's a great thing. My main point is the instinct to put someone down because they are of a different culture is a destructive thing. It's what makes Nazi's Kill Jews, Make Christians battle Muslims, And makes Narrow minded individuals hunt African Americans or Homosexuals. And I'm not implying that you do such things... just that the ostrcizing of people for their differences is the spark of a much larger flame.

What is culture if not the learned behavior of people. Do you think he invented his speach patterns or do you think it was a learned dynamic influenced by his peers. This is the basis of culture. It's where knowledge (Good and Bad), traditions, and ways of life are born. My culture is taken from my family and those I have encountered in my life. They are learned and not something I just came up with. Some of them I question, some of them I accept... but all of them I respect. And an argument can be made for any culture being destructive. I'm a Christian (or so I call myself... some of my ideas are a little different than most) and there are those who suggest my culture is destructive. That people of my mindset reject education and free thought and therefore hold back society. That I am a slave to Dogma. Maybe... But I try to take my set of principles and do things to help... not harm. And I feel sorry for people who can't just accept my differences and move on. I welcome questions... but I can't respect the need for someone to put me down for my culture. Of course they're free to do so if they choose... but it's a shame.

That's all well and good, but from severedthumbs posts, I get the impression that the whole thing is manufactured.

Kind of like me starting to talk with a middle eastern accent and telling people they need to accept my culture. It's not really my culture, so I sound like an as@hat.

At this point, I'm done with this, just because I was just trying to razz the guy a bit and it's just gone way too far to the point of really insulting him if he is indeed who he claims to be. That wasn't my intention.

Good on you for defending your beliefs and a guy you don't know, shows grit. I can tell your a good dude.

I wish I was in Las Vegas right now, I am in NH and there are 320,000 people without electricity tonight. There are 500,000 people in Mass. without power also. It will get down to 15 degrees tonight with a wind chill that will make it feel like 2 degrees. Tommorow and Sunday will be colder. Without power, there is no heat in the homes. The furnaces will not work. There are trees and power lines down everywhere, All this from freezing rain. Vegas is the place to be right now,
