Unbreakable - pull it out, wash it off, and put it away. The love fest is over here.

You completely gloss over all the the over the top things he said to pick the positions that are defensible, you should go into politics.

Talking about people "gunning you down in cars, posses, thuggin, crippen, mean streets"...I mean, um, SERIOUSLY?

I can adapt to cultural change, mergers, cross-pollination of lifestyles and idioms, BUT I cannot tolerate people "gang banging" on a fricken knife forum about a hobby.

Mall ninjas are about 5 notches above wanna-be pasty gang bangers.

Who are you to say how anyone can experess themselves. I should go into politics... I get the bash. You assign me with slight of hand of a politician... but seriously... just because you don't approve of how he expresses himself what gives you the right to tell anyone what you will or will not tolerate. What are you gonna do about it other than wave your arms around and make a stink about things. Maybe he isn't being honest about his growing up. Perhaps he lived in a suburb and wore Polo shirts to his private school... so what? Are we really gonna waste this much time talking about it? Free speech is free speech. As long as he's not violating any forum rules he can express himself however he wants. You are free to do the same. But to insist that he isn't allowed the same freedom is very communist of you.

and the award for most consecutive posts goes to.....

:)

Sorry... I don't live on the forum and so I don't respond to things in real time. I see things I want to respond to and do it in blocks... you'll notice that's pretty much the way I reply to all threads... it's because I have other things to do.

Depends on where you're from and what the dominant culture is. I definitely know the kids you're talking about... however that being said and young white male that listens to rap music and uses urban slang can't always be said to be trying to act like another certain race. Face it... it's a part of our culture now... no different than when guys in the 70's were calling people jive fools. You might not like it... but it's there nonetheless. They wear their pants hanging off their butts... not different than bell bottoms. It's just the culture and young people follow the dominant culture.
Any white kid that dresses with baggy pants, talks like they are black, and listen to rap music is trying to copy someone of another race. Plain and simple. The worst part about it is they are not trying to copy any of the many admirable qualities of that other race but rather the most vile.
You are right about it being a part of culture now but that doesn't mean it should be. I had a few younger guys working for me that acted like they were from the ghetto but they were all white trash and I had to fire all three of them for being lazy and undependable. I had the unfortunate oppurtunity to meet a couple of their parents and they were dirt.
So you have these no good parents raising these no good kids and this is the end result. :thumbdn:

Really.... so because I listen to classical music does that mean I'm trying to be an aristocrat? Because I listen to metal... doeas that mean I'm trying to be a biker or coke head? Because I wear a Tuxedo to special occasions does that mean I'm trying to be James Bond? Must someone's taste in music and clothes immediately imply that they are attempting to be someone who did it before them? If so none of us are safe. Am I trying to be a soldier because I own an AR-15? Because I own a nice watch... am I trying to be like (Insert Person) who wore the same watch before me? It isn't as simple as you put it... it's the basis of your prejudice shining through.

You are right about it being a part of culture now but that doesn't mean it should be.

Why? Who's to say your culture or you way is any better? You? Who made you judge?

First of all... two or three personal experiences is proof of nothing. You cannot base a statement on an entire group of people based soley on your observations of a few individuals. So there is really no way you base your opinion (Because that's all it really is, and is all it's really worth) on those couple guys. I do not doubt that they were lazy and undependable if you say so. That they were trash is a personal opinion... I am sure there is someone higher up on the social food chain that would consider both you and I trash so such a title is subjective and meaningless. And you make mention that they had poor parentage yet you lay blame on the music and clothes. Maybe they just had crappy upbringing. You can't connect the two though. Crappy upbringing doesn't always lead someone to listen to rap or wear their pants hanging down. Unless you're willing to say that everyone involved with that culture is trash, lazy, and undependable and then back it up with some facts... your opinion is just that... your opinion. And is only worth the going rate of opinions.

So let me see if I got all the facts. We have a 30 year old Phys Ass. who only goes to the strip to get the hunnies but has a great woman, rolls with 15 or some boys to hang in grimy areas, goes by the "I yam what I yam" credo put goes back and edits out the controversial statements, has seen devastating drive-bys but then claims it was all a hoax to mess with Sharp Phil. Did I miss anything? Oh yes, finds cloudless days to be "gloomy".

Did I miss anything?

Zen, I don't think there's ever too big of a problem if one happens to "miss" something in a thread about Cold Steel!;) SeveredThumbs has always been a troll (he started trolling the Spyderco forums years ago), and is finally being recognized as such on these forums. In other words, there's nothing new under the "gloomy" sky.:D

Regards son,

Wow I can't believe the topic I created has turned into this MONSTER!! lmao

Cold Steel threads tend to turn into monsters. But this one really took a strange turn.

That being said, Cold Steel threads are like soap series on TV. You can miss several pages and still know what it's about.

Kind regards,

Jos

Who are you to say we can't say how someone expresses themselves?:D

We can all say whatever we wish. But majority rules.

Nobodys going to get banned for the way they talk but they might get picked on. Rules of the jungle.

...but would you have the guts to insult his physical appearence or eating habits to his face? You probably could, I suspect he has too much class to let that get to him but I suspect if it came down to him challenging you in a full contact event you would probably walk the other way as fast as your legs would carry you.

I'd fight him. I'm bigger, stronger and faster than him. Fighting is my 2nd favorite thing to do. I wouldn't sword fight him though. I have no sword skills and I'd just be a big target.;)

We're not in a jungle we're in America (Most of us) and America is a republic... not a democracy.... or at least it used to be. It's not supposed to be majority rules... it's supposed to be a system that does what is best for the people... All the people. I just asked who is anyone to tell someone else how they can and cannont express themself... You can say anything you like within the rules... but after that, your freedoms end where someone else's begins. Rules of the jungle only apply in the jungle. By your example a person should be able to punch someone in the nose if they don't like what they say... now this happens all them time because they're are people who think like you... the difference is that the person punching people in the nose goes to jail with all the other unstable people who are a danger to regular people.

Actually that would be fascism.

So let me get this straight... I have to accept his "culture" but he isn't accepting or adapting to the culture of this forum...therein lies the rub.

sorry , neither of your rules apply , the rules that apply here are the forum rules , which are by Spark and the admin team.

If they say " No gangsta talk " , then that is it , it's their house , their rules.
If they don't mind , why would anyone else try to stop someone from talking (virtually ) in the way they do ?

People , ( myself included ) , bag on CS , LT , Dork Ops , Mantis , etc.... so we can't expect any different coming back at us. You want to rip someone else up , be prepared to endure some shots when it comes back around.

Just remember to not take it too seriously when it comes back around.

You give & you will get , just roll with it.

America is a republic... not a democracy....

Wrong. American gov't is a representative democracy.

It's not supposed to be majority rules.

Wrong. Everything about this country is majority rule.

it's supposed to be a system that does what is best for the people.

Wrong. That would be socialism.

Basic Psychology 101: If you join a social group, you either conform to the norm, or become ostracized for refusal to conform. No one here has to accept or tolerate the mindless violent spewing BS of someone who is trolling a thread.

America - Putting idiots in their place since 1776.

Wow, that was an impressive speech but it just doesn't change the reality that he can say what he wishes as can we. If we want to question the way he talks, we have the right to do so.

But nice try.

Edit: Since when does questioning someone about trying to sound cool on the interweb equate to punching them in the nose.

Yet again, nice try.
