Knives are not weapons. My Glock 32 is a weapon. And I will put it up against any knife or sword any day or night, any time, any place. In a world with real weapons... you don't wanna be caught with only a blade.

It's not the slang of his "generation" but of a certain cross section of white kids that wish they were a different color and act like and speak like ghetto trash. Kids that don't have these sort of identity problems don't talk like that.
 
I have a 27 year old friend who says it jokingly for effect. He is actually black. And actually from Harlem. Even he says it in jest, because, well, he knows its a stupid thing to say :D

WOW, ghetto trash???

I grew up very poor in what many would consider ghettos. But I am not trash. My parents did the best they could at the time. The majority of my friends for a long time were black, but none of them are or were trash. Your statement was very disrespectful. The way one talks does not make that person trash. I do not try to be anything I am not. The word son is just part of how I talk, so get over it.

If you think that the way you talk doesnt affect what people think about you, or that "I am who I am" is the way to go through life, you better re-evaluate.

I have found this to be very true when dealing with extremely narrow-minded individuals.

I do not need to re-evaluate anything in my life. I have a great woman, a great job and education and I take care of my daughter. My life is going just fine. So you keep doing what you do and I'll keep on doing what I do.

Depends on where you're from and what the dominant culture is. I definitely know the kids you're talking about... however that being said and young white male that listens to rap music and uses urban slang can't always be said to be trying to act like another certain race. Face it... it's a part of our culture now... no different than when guys in the 70's were calling people jive fools. You might not like it... but it's there nonetheless. They wear their pants hanging off their butts... not different than bell bottoms. It's just the culture and young people follow the dominant culture.

Perhaps he censors himself becuase you think it's stupid. Perhaps when he's with other friends he uses it freely. I'm telling you it's not different than dude or bro... we're just the old farts that don't like the kids new slang.

They don't mean to be disrespectful. Some people are just ignorant and never get outside of their little comfort zone with different people who act in different ways... it's easier to marginalize someone different and call them stupid or trash than to try get a flavor of their culture.
