why do the heavy duty bk knives come with such slippery handles?

In the ~30 years tht Becker knives have been around, has there been so much as a rumor that injury has occoured due to the handles?

Jeebus. Fiskers makes axes with slicker handles and no one gripes about that. Machetes have been made with slick plastic handles for decades.

greed .

There is an 18 year age requirement, which is stupid. There should be no age requirement.

So what you are saying is that no knife that shouldn't be handles by a 3 year old should be legal?

What about children's parents? Last I knew most 10 year old don't have credit cards.

But shouldn't you worry less about what 10 year old can get, and more about parental responsibility?

haven't you ever seen those visa cards you can buy at walmart or 7-11? a 10 year old can buy one of those and fill it up with money and buy a bk2 online.

but this is getting off topic.

why do the heavy duty bk knives come with such slippery handles? is it a carefully thought out move motivated by something?

For comfort. There you go. The reason is for comfort. They are slick for comfort, and shaped to be easy to hold.

That is the reason.

Ah.....the things a person could learn if they would only LISTEN......instead of having all of the answers. Having made it this far through this thread, I'm putting in a humble request for Bladite, Guyon, Derek, Moose, or Mr. Becker to close this thread while this young fella still has a shred of his dignity left.

i don't know about you but im not comfortable knowing a one pound razor sharp knife would slip out of my hands at any time.

they're not slippery.

you just don't know how to use them apparently

but to specify, Ethan designed these the way he wanted them way way way back in the early 80s, or beyond...

so ya know, 30-35 years history there. the handles have not changed much. they've gone from an elasomeric polymer to glass reinforced nylon which is pretty damn tough... yeah, it'll break. it'll actually shatter like glass a bit if you crush it with a sledge hammer. you'll never break it with your hands.

best thing you can do is scuff it up with some sandpaper if you don't like it.

as for me? with sweaty and even bloody hands, using these handles for decades, i have not found them slippery. my hands don't "fall off". the knives don't go shooting out of my hands either. they're good.

your opinion, based on using one knife, for a limited amount of time, and then putting what amounts to expensive skateboard tape on the handles pretty much invalidates your thesis.

if you are bucking for a free set of micarta or something, too bad.

you're probably right.

we don't want another 15 yo getting upset at us. if that.

All, do you really think this is for real? IMO it is just a place to talk junk and create issues

i think someone created three threads in a short amount of time, and is getting some attention that is short lived.

On second thought, you're right proton.

I've taken your common sense analysis of the Becker grips and applied it to other stuff.

I'm writing a letter to Good Year tires tomorrow. How dare they make a tire that doesn't allow me to take a sharp corner at 90 MPH in my SUV!?!?! The audacity!

I mean, any 10 year old girl could buy a pre-paid credit card, use it to buy a car with Good Year tires and kill thousands of people!!

This is the best thread ever. It's like a Jerry Springer show. Pointless and empty arguments. The sad thing for me is what you say about googling it. Why trust others words - just try for your self. Are you not a member of the Land of the FREE?

Or am I missing something to the 'troll' here and its really a clever ploy to convince us that Becker scales are slippy so we should move on to a more 'two handed, 3 position' system??? Just a thought.

Gassy pass the popcorn!

Spot On! I'm confused too when it's obvious there is a disruptive intention.
