I have a $15.00 trac phone and I wear a $50.00 watch, these meet my needs, so I feel justified carrying a $150.00 pocket knife. Plus, it's handy to cut stuff with.

Because my mom told me to never put a pair of sissors in my pocket. Because I will stab/cut my self ( Can't remember which ) :D

As I repeatedly stab people throughout the day, I find carrying a knife or five to be very handy.

Utility...Because cutting an apple (my preferred mid morning snack) with a .357 SIG round is awfully noisy in the office.

Initially I did because I wasn't supposed to. Had a small Swiss army I found on the beach on LAKE GEORGE NY when I was 7 or 8. A couple yrs later I broke it much to my chagrin. Shortly there after, I was given a Swiss champ by a person's wife whom I played a part in rescuing after crashing his car off a 25-30ft cliff. I checked him out and he was unconscious so I ran 2 miles to the nearest house n called 911. If I hadn't seen it happen the guy would have died. Scary shit at 10-11 yrs old. I treasured that knife till it was stolen out of my car. Turns out the knuckle head who stole it overdosed on fentanyl lollipops a week or so later. Growing up I would spend 5-6 weeks every summer, and every holiday up at lake George because my father was a school teacher and that's what we did with any time off. Always handy to have a knife in that environment and just plain fun whittling, skinning squirrels and any other things I could come up with. I truly feel naked with out a knife and next to never am I without one on my person. Lots of good memories of my youth horsing around the Adirondacks with some sort of blade and a hatchet. Making forts, blinds, traps, fires. Puts a smile on my grill just remembering it. I apologize for the diarrhea of the mouth, but the more I thought about it the more came to mind

Shooting ANYTHING with a .357 SIG is noisy.

Because where/when I grew up everybody carried a knife.

You were looked at as "odd" if you didn't.

I have always carried a knife at least 50% of my time awake up until Christmas of 2013. Christmas morning my neighbor decided to hang himself and his wife came running over to get me to help... they were in the middle of being evicted and most of their belongings were moved to a storage shed already so I couldn't find a sharp knife anywhere in the house to cut him down. I ended up having to break picture frame and use the glass to saw through the dog leash he used. You won't catch me anywhere without a good sharp blade in my pocket anymore. I gave CPR until paramedics arrived and revived him but two days later he was determined to be brain dead. I still blame myself for not getting him down and starting CPR fast enough

Ha! Mom was Right!

All mine are users but I can't lie when I say I do feel a slight ownership of pride when using well built knife from tip to end.

:(

Geez... Thats awful… Sorry man.

I guess sometimes technically I carry one for defense and utility purposes. Every spring I go canoeing into Algonquin park with my father and several other people, and this is like a 3 day canoe trip in to the middle of the Canadian bush and 3 days out, so not really any other people near. At those times I carry my big buck hunting knife on my hip to cut ropes, bash/clean a fish, and just in case I ever meet a predator on a portage or going on a walkabout through the bush. Never have so far (only moose), but I would much rather have a bowie in my hands if I know this is also where bears took a dump than to not.

The awful part is that he left behind two sons 12 and 8 years old. I can't think of a time in life a boy needs his father more than during those years!

Always be prepared. Just because it's 10 am Christmas day doesn't stop tragedies. And also be proud cuz for the most part every knife guy I know runs towards it when it strikes! Seems like the "how can I help" mindset is strong in guys like us!

I concur. Sorry about the loss of your neighbor.

I carry knives for utility (I use them frequently at work).

I carry specific knives because I like them.

I don't weight defense as a reason. I carry a firearm for that. My blades are for cardboard and plastic. I don't expect or need everyone else to share that philosophy.

Can't blame yourself for something like that. He decided to end his life you had nothing to do with it.

I carry knives in case I need one. For whatever comes up. Mostly I always have two, one for use and one just in case.

I have carried a knife since I was 7 years old so it is pretty much ingrained in my behavior.
Now 40 years later a knife is something I always have in my pocket once out of the house.
