Utility and cool factor. As of 8 months ago, I carried a knife just for utility, and those knives were pretty basic and only so-so in the cool factor. I went from a SOG Flash II to a Trident, then an Aegis mini, and then an Aegis in the span of 6 years working in a warehouse. When I got the Aegis I wanted to know if I had purchased a decent knife, so I went looking for lists of good EDC knives. I found this forum, and immediately got converted into carrying knives for more than just utility. I realized the benefit to spending a bit more on a quality knife that will last me much longer than a Flash with a lot more comfort than an Aegis and stay sharper much longer than a Trident. Now I have a BM Rift/Adamas/ZT0566 rotation for my LHP and a FRN Native/ZDP Delica/BDZ Blur rotation for my RHP. Some people tell me I carry too many knives, I like to think I carry enough for any job that could get thrown at me during a normal work day or if I had to survive by myself for a day or two.

I always carry a knife, because you never know...

A knife is useful for many things. It doesn't take up much room either. Even a larger folding knife takes much less room and weighs far less than even the smallest of mouse guns, for example. Yeah the knife might not be the best for defense, but it's a lot more useful in every day life. A wallet, keys, and cell phone don't leave room for much else depending on what you're wearing. However, they usually leave room for a knife.

I carry a knife in nature for stabbing knives_in_nature.

Because I always have, since I was 12 years old. I'm 48 now, I doubt I'm going to change any time soon.

I feel naked without one. I have jury duty next week, and I will not be able to carry anything. Just thinking about it makes me dizzy...I might pass out. :D

There was a time not long ago where Men carried a knife..They just did. Sit at a table of WWII Vets , I bet they all have a cutting tool in their pockets. Mine gets used for a variety of tasks every day.

Another Mom thing, she always told me I needed to have one in my pocket in case she needed it. I always have two or three in case I need one too. One for cutting stuff and one to whittler or is that two to whittle, you always need one more.

(...)I still blame myself for not getting him down and starting CPR fast enough

Can't blame yourself for something like that. He decided to end his life you had nothing to do with it.

Jill is right, JKirby. You did not put that man up there. In fact, you waded into that crisis and did all you could for him which took a lot more courage than running off to find someone else to step in. A lot more courage. Be proud of that.

With profound respect,

-Brett

*ETA: sorry for the drift, OP. I voted 'style points' as I feel like less of a savage animal when I use tools to get stuff done... ;)

I wrapped up jury duty yesterday. I felt very naked without my folder and firearm.
