"Why do you carry a weapon?!"

Since I don't walk around flashing a knife the only time anyone notices it is when it's in use, at which point there's no need to ask why I have it.
I never get asked any of the "non knife person" questions. What am I doing wrong?

"A good friend of mine packs a ruger gp100 357 magnum when he mows his lawn"

LOL, we have a douchebag like that who lives in our upper middle class neighborhood.

Everybody calls him "BARNEY FIFE" ROTFL!!

It's ironic, considering who the actual d-bags are in the situation.

Interesting comment. Now I will share with you a true story to perhaps give you a look at some reasoning behind it.

...I had forgotten all about the conversation and was just going about my day. I received to paper and looked at the headlines in the local section before returning to the house for my coffee. The headline read (can't remember verbatim but similar to)"man robed at gunpoint and murdered". I returned to the house and sat down to read the story. Turns out only 1 mile from the previous stated conversation with the woman a man was taking out his trash at around 5PM and was robed at gunpoint for his wallet right outside his house. After gaining his money the intruder turned and started to run. In mid stride he decided that having the money was not good enough so he stooped, turned around and shot the elderly man in the head with his illegally bought pistol...

EDIT:
only to add a picture

I would hate to be robed by someone who then stoops and turns around. :p

At a minimum, I open carry dual Kabar 1232s on a daily basis (when not on the farm- then it's 1219C2s or BK7s/9s), along with dual Buck folders clipped to each front pocket. That doesn't count whatever is in the vehicle of the day. When necessary (say, like going into a court house), I take the knives out and leave the sheaths on my hips. When the PTB ask, I say, "Yep, they're sheaths. The knives are out in the 'car'. Your rules say 'no knives, not no sheaths."

I seldom get the "weapon" question, but when I do, I simply look at them and say "What weapon?" When they point to or refer to my knives, I simply tell them "These are knives are legal to carry per the Texas constitution any place they are not prohibited by law, regulation or ordinance." And then I ignore them.

The question I get the most is "Are those legal?" and my response is "Per the Texas constitution they are." and that usually leads to questions about knives in general and then I take the opportunity to educate them on knife law in Texas.

I usually get more comments on the order of
"Nice knives."
"Are you a cop?" (No. Probably due to 99% of the time I wear black/dark shirts, black pants, black boots and a season appropriate cowboy hat :D )
"Why do you have 2 knives?" They usually miss the other or 4. :D And I tell them about my grandfather.... see other posts about that story.

I was open carrying a large revolver, yet I was asked why I carried a knife. My reply was "ammo is expensive, and I like being close". Needless to say, conversation ended

I don't fully trust any man who doesn't keep a knife of some sort on his person whenever possible. To me it says a lot about a person, are you a get it done kind of guy or a call a guy kind of guy? Most of the time guys like that don't know how to use basic tools like a saw, hammer, and screw drivers. I didn't realize such people existed until watching a friend of mine in highschool struggle with a hand saw, he had no clue how to use the tool and blamed the tool for not working properly. I don't trust folks like that, would you?

As for OC, according to the CDC the majority of violent gun crimes are committed with handguns because of their ability to conceal. If you are OCing I assume you are an upstanding gun owner. There are so many more CC folks out there yet folks don't seem to stress about them. It really doesn't make sense when you think about it. Ignorance is bliss and all I guess.

OK, I hope this is hyperbole. I love all the people who are going to save the world cuz they have their knife with them. Lol. Thank you you are all heroes!

I was taught you better be able to defend yourself with or without a weapon. People have guns, so knives barely stack up as a weapon anyway. And maybe all the folks who don't feel the need to open carry don't because they know your wanna-be-batman-selves will save them.
We don't wanna be judged when we carry, its a right! But then judge everyone who doesn't carry.

Oh yeah, and I carry my knife so when I get shot I can tell nutnfancy I was a true tnp-er and had my knife on me always.

Keep him, just don't let him use it when he needs it. You'll know what moments I'm talking about, the "I need to open this package...hey you have a knife!" yeah..don't lend it to him.

I is a stoodent, people ask me all the time. Read one day about a seven year old girl who died in a car crash when the car caught on fire and no-one had aknife to get her out. I nearly cried, no kidding I literally was one second from tears. If what you carry has the POTENTIAL to save a life, even if it never does then I don't care bout the dark looks. Plus, a kid my age was walking down the street one night, a bunch f drunks from the pub jumped him and turned him into a vegetable with a pipe. And these people have the nerve to ask me why I carry a 3.5 inch linerlock?! I also have sister who I walk with all the time, I don't think I need to explain to you guys why I would have knife when I am walking with my family. I have never even been in a fight at school, ever but if in real life someone comes at my sister I know I have the ability to make a difference, I can save life from two perspectives in wither of these scenarios.

Lol also guns are illegal to carry in public in Australia unless they are in a gun bag with the bolt out. Not to mention hand guns are almost impossible to get and illegal to get if under 18

a knife is a tool but some times a tool is needed to defend ones self. my only issue is that even when I carry my 3" kershaw people see the clip and go "is that a knife?" "why do you have a knife?" my usual reply is either why not or so I don't have to ask someone for one I have better reasons but those are longer stories
