Why is 13C26 better?

^^^ what he said. I would absolutely love to see something so acute with an frn handle. No need at all for an overbuilt frame to support it, and I'm personally not looking to spend a lot on embellishments just to see how well this steel can handle a thin profile. :D

I'd add in the same disclaimer as the one for the Civilian's tip for the thin edge.

I think something like a minature volpe would be an awesome application for this steel. A small low cost frame lock with wood inlays and an indentation for blade control.

I think a nice run of flat grind Delicas and Enduras (waved and unwaved) in this steel would not only sell well but go down as one of the best yet for the applications tried in the new D4 design.

I own enough Calypso Juniors for the moment so I guess that I'd like to see a 13C26 sprint run of either the Centofante III or Dragonfly. That is assuming we're talking about a hard enough blade. The Centofante would let us see the steel in a really thin hollow grind and allow a comparison with VG-10. The Dragonfly would let us see a comparison with AUS-8 and a flat ground blade. They are both very respectable gentleman's knives with thin edges.

Nozh2002: I mostly used a Sharpmaker and played around with a small (1x4 inch) medium Norton grey/blue stone and and a piece of green CrO loaded cardboard from the_mac.

I don't really know about Norton stone ang CrO loaded cardboard. I have two leater on wood blocks () from American Handmade, sprayed with 6 micron and 1 micron diamond powder and this combination can get rid of any blurr. I stop using Sharpmaker because it is too hard and does not work on some Shirogami knives, this also may lead to more blurr if push too hard, but on leather I do not see this problems.

Thanks, Vassili.

I like this idea!! But.... I also would LOVE a FULL FLAT GRIND Delica!!

Somewhere out there must be a distributor with bad information about the 13C26 blades. Here is text from a new sale item on a website:

"Th Mini-Cyclone has a 3-1/4" black blade of Sandvik 13C26 stainless steel @ 54-56 Rc., with a combination edge. The handle is black 6061-T6 anodized aluminum with 410 stainless steel liners. Walker-style lock. The pocket clip is movable for tip-up or down carry. Measures 4-1/4" closed. Weighs 4.4 oz. Made in the U.S.A. "

Are ANY of the Kershaws that soft?

Jeff, I mentioned earlier in this thread that we currently HT 13C26 at 59-60, past knives were in the 57-58 range.

Interesting contrast in the way spokesmen for two different companies view feedback from the ELU and interact with the users on these forums.

Sal - still a huge fan of the old Caly Jr., I'd be delighted to see something similar in terms of size, weight and blade geometry in 13C26.

Also interesting the respect, or complete lack thereof, that ELU's(or wannabes) show to individuals representing companies, and initiate comments.

Once again for the pinheads out there, Sal owns Spyderco, Thomas W. is an executive at Kershaw/Kai USA.

Also, just so you know, Sal Glesser is sort of an elder statesman, and personally, a pretty mellow guy of average build, who just wants everyone to get along.

The Junkyard Dawg was named after Thomas, more like a Rottweiler to Sal's Golden Retreiver. At one point, we were afraid he was rabid, and were going to have to put him down.

Best Regards,

Kohai999 - rather than jumping to the conclusion that your "pinheads" comment was in any way directed at me, I'd simply like to point out that you might do well to follow Sal's example. :) Name calling adds nothing worthwhile to any discussion.

As far as Sal and Thomas's respective positions within their companies they're both spokesmen in their roles on these forums. Just because Sal is the owner of Spyderco and something of an "elder statesman" here doesn't mean that Thomas - or even a first time poster to these forums for that matter - deserves any less respect than he does.

Best regards to you as well.

One suspects they put their pants on one leg at a time, just as do you, I and even...

Once again for the pinheads out there,...
...pinheads.

You might try practicing a bit of what you preach Mr. "Sales & New Product Development at a sporting goods manufacturing company."

What Jeff's trying to point out is some (many? most?) resellers of your product are advertising hardness' lower than that--sometimes much lower. You can hardly blame people for not knowing you're hardening it to 59-60 when there are "product brochures" all over the 'net that say something different, can you? (I don't know what your own web site says, as I'm unable to navigate past the front page.)

What exactly do I preach?

My, now wasnt' that mature and intelligent. Ah well, at least you have enough sense not to reveal the name of your employer, thus sparing them the embarrassment.

What exactly do I preach?
Respect. But it would appear that, in your mind, that's only a one-way street.

Listen, newb.......

I post my REAL name, and anyone who can read knows where I live, so that is that.

Like many others in this, and other internet communities, you are an anonymous blip.

I respect..sometimes I give it freely, as the mood suits, sometimes I return it when it has been given in kind.

I respect and defend my friends, hardcore, so when people go after Thomas/Kershaw with less than basic respect, it is ill advised, for many reasons, the least of which, when it is not pleasant for Thomas to be here, participating, he does not continue, and it requires MUCHO arm-bending to get him back on.

Is that what you want?

All you have done since your short tenure here is flap.

Flap-on, Brother Newb!

No Regards,

STeven Garsson

Well it looks like we all need to slow down here. I'm stuck at the sale for the rest of the day (and weekend), but will comment on some of the above a bit later.
