Why is there sometimes snobbery against Cold Steel knives? They are great!

Seeing how i asked it, i might as well give my take on them.
I dont really like thier advertising. I think that theyre going in the right direction with thier ads, but the hardcore metal music blasting and the bloody background and a bunch of "tough guys" trashing car hoods and boots is too much. If they were more calm, and only did weight tests and spine whacks would be better.
But i ignore that. I wont ignore a knife just because the ads suck. I like the folders and will probably buy them again.

That is the trend with their newer videos. Either LT talking about them, or Andrew Demko doing some weight hanging on them.

I dont know why I keep going to big lots.......... the store isnt really a real big lots, its a guy who pretends to be but really he just sells random stuff

CPM M4 is a great steel IMHO strong great edge retention tool steel. Upper tiered steel

Haha thanks, I know. It was a poor attempt at a joke, since he talked about the ak47...so M4... nevermind :D

if you o\pay that price you should expect more. if it cant handle my use then it shouldnt be carried by me. Done for good. Also g10 models have an annoying hotspot
CANT HANDLE YOUR USE!? (speaking nicely)
What were you doing with them and what model was it! My cold steel is a tank

I live in two cities, one on a foothills and one on the sea. So i get rust fast, I baton, I cut and i chop I even use it for mild hammering[PM2 M390 Black G10 has been holding up well I recommend it over an o/p cs]also I work out with a knife, I cant imagine trying to run with a XLvoyager in my pocket. They just arent for me. Salt water does not like AUS8 (i live 2 blocks from water) and hard use just makes them annoying to use, I dont like resharpening a knife so much.

Triple Action. Borrowed a G10 Espada, borrowed and broke an old school recon, and the san mai tanto does not like extreme temperature changes while in hard use (layers expand and shrink creating problems)

And mad dog replied

Cold Steel knives are boring. They seem to use the same handle material, same steel, same color, and same lock on each knife.

If you've owned one CS folder you feel like you've owned them all. The only thing that seems to change is the shape.

Thats the exact way I feel about CS. Im sure they make some great products but I have not seen a single one where I saw it and just had to have it.

I like Cold Steel, but I think most of the snobbery is mythical. I see far more threads like this than I do threads bashing CS.

You weren't around a few years ago. It only seems like lately that the C.S. hate has diminished. Or more likely everyone is tired of the topic, as am I. I do like some of C.S.'s products, but I also like products from other manufacturers. No biggie. Next...........

That explains maybe a couple members, but most of the users who imagine a massive anti-C.S. conspiracy are new members who began learning about knives from LT's ads and are shocked to learn upon coming here that his claims didn't hold very much truth. Then when people try to educate them, they argue back instead of doing research, because first impressions are apparently very deep-rooted.

I would like to point out that CS knives are probably the worst self defense knives out there. 'Cause if you do wind up needing to defend your life with it you will probably go to court for stabbing or possibly killing someone. And I have a sneaking suspicion that the prosecution pulling out an ad for your knife demonstrating how well it can pierce body armor and slice flesh isn't going to help your defense:p

This probably explains me. Ill be honest with myself. when i started, i got very passionate about the CS arguements i was in and made a few people pretty mad at me.
Ive changed though. I still like cold steel, (im carrying my Mini ak right now) but ive chilled out about it. I dont try to force my opinion. Just because say...... 45 people like them and 50 people dont, the 45 people should just keep low about it and not try to make the other 50 like them. Theres differing opinions everywhere, about everything.
Ive even heard people say spyderco was ugly and benchmade wasnt innovative (not me, i dont own either).
just shows the diversity. if everyone agreed, thered only be one company

Ha. never saw it like that.

You are learning, young padawan. :D

I didn't read the whole thread, sorry, but decided to give my opinion in the matter, if i may:D
I never owned a CS because i don't like most of their knife designs except the American Lawman!
I thought many times about buying one but never pulled the trigger. The knife seems nice but seems expensive for an AUS-8 knife with a cheap coating!
I know it's not an all that expensive knife, i own way more expensive ones than that, but seems pricy for the materials either way.

When i think about buying it i always visualise it completely modded:D
Bare with me and my dream:D
Same shape but with an orange G-10 handle and a stonewashed s30v blade!
I would also install my DPX Hest clip i have spare with it's glass breaker:D
I often dream about this one LOL.
I actually thought about talking to a knife maker to make a blade just like the one on the Lawman but in s30v! Do you guys think it would be possible?

Oh...before you mention it, i know Andrew Demko makes the sweeeet AD-10 but too pricy for me at the moment:)

Sorry about this being a bit OT but it's late over here and i should be sleeping by now:D

Spyderco is more of ergos and quality of lookin. Pretty. They Kershaw and benchmade are steps up. Mantua and mtech are steps down. Which way shall you choose

Bladeboss...there's nothing wrong with using and liking Cold Steel knives. They have their uses. It's just threads such as this one which start out basically saying that the only reason someone would not like Cold Steel is because they got ripped off and don't want to admit it and that Cold Steel makes the best product for the money out there that annoy some people here. Frankly, Cold Steel knives really aren't anything special for the most part (that's not to say they're garbage), and that sort of boastful attitude gets people riled up.

That having been said, buy a Spyderco or a Benchmade or a Kershaw and you'll see you do get what you pay for with most of their knives.
