Why the dislike for the wave feature?

Speaking only for myself, I don't want my knife to open when I draw it from my pocket. As such, the wave feature is not only unnecessary; it's undesirable.

Dunno.

I have a Spyderco Endura Wave that is a fine knife. It is faster on the draw, for me, than an automatic.

A friend, a LE tactics instructor, could probably gut an attacker from the rear like a fish. While that is not a skill I have any interest in developing, I do appreciate a well made knife.

Best.

I don't understand either... IMHO it is a great feature for people looking for a tactical use

It may be too tactical for my personal use but otherwise I like the concept a lot

Because, I'm not a tactical operator and I have no interest or need to have it open immediately exiting my pocket.

I have 2 knives with the wave feature, I've never needed to open my knife that fast, I prefer the disk opening. While I don't avoid wave openers like I do half serrated blades, tantos, or recurves I don't seek them out either.

While is was in south America for 4 months last year I only carried knives with a wave feature.

An element in a fight is always a surprise.

Turning your body away from a threat and removing the knife open from the pocket instantly is something that they just don't see coming.

First strike usually wins in a fight.

But here in the states it is not what I use for an edc. Matter of fact I never carry a knife with wave feature here in the USA unless I am traveling or in a bad area. Which I recommend anyone do bring along if traveling and get lots of practice before you leave.

For me the wave is just a feature that some knives have. I just don't happen to need it for my uses. Dislike is too strong a word. It's more a preference for me.

Although, I don't understand why some people develop strong emotions against features they don't like. Just don't buy it folks. No drama needed.

It's really, really easy to pull the knife from your pocket without it opening. :)
On some models, you have to try really hard to get the wave to engage.

Just curious, but why do people dislike knives with the wave feature?

It looks stupid, tears up your pocket and is an unreliable deployment method when someone is about to chop your head off with a machete. Just my opinion.

I don t buy knives with waves because when I carry a folder clipped, it is usually IWB. The wave gets hung up unintentionally too often when drawn from IWB. I can open a knife very fast manually and think a wave is more bother than benefit.

The wave feature is not fast enough for my low-drag, high speed operations. I need a knife that opens when I think I might need to deploy it.

I personally find no need for automatics, assisted, or wave openers. I don't intend to use a knife for self defense. If you are one that feels the need and is trained to defend yourself with a knife, I can see it being a valuable feature.

I carry all my knives in my left pocket (I am right handed and prefer my phone and keys in my right pocket), so I could get away with carrying a wave knife without it deploying it accidentally.

My folder is about 3rd down on the list of potential weapons I carry day to day. Don't see the need for fast deployment. It's a neat feature, just unnecessary. I still want one though.
