Wilderness Photography

I was able to spend the last few days at the Hill People Gear Winter Skills Training gathering. I've hung out with the HPG folk during their summer gatherings for the last 3 years, but haven't been to one of their winter gatherings yet. This one was held at a camp above the town of Como in South Park (yes, that South Park) Colorado.

Looking from the Camp down into South Park. The mountains in the distance are the Tarryall Mountains. The pics I've posted in the past from the Lost Creek Wilderness are from that area:

Brrr:

Ken, one of the instructors with HPG going over self arrest techniques with different winter tools like ice axes and shovels:

Como is an old railroad town on the Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad. The railroad shut down in 1937 and the town pretty much did as well. A few folks still live there, but it's basically become a ghost town.

The town of Como as viewed from the camp:

The train depot and hotel in Como. It's going through a restoration project and is on the National Register of Historic Places:

The railroad roundhouse was built in 1881:

The buildings in Como are a mix of old, rundown, abandoned and well maintained and occupied:

This one's for sale. I picked up a flyer if anyone's interested:

It was a great weekend hanging out with some old friends and new and learning a bunch of new skills.

Thanks for looking.

Thanks! I guess that's one advantage of being at 10,000 feet, not much air to get in the way of a pretty sky.

Absolutely stunning photos and locale. Thanks for sharing. Fantastic [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]

Oh yes. That is definitely a beautiful part of Colorado, though there isn't much of here that's not beautiful in my opinion! Thanks for sharing!

You're welcome!

I'll agree with that opinion. I love our state.

Nathan,
The photo with the moon in blue sky above the trees... What a shot. Very nice sir. Love it.

You did an amazing job with the composition on these crystal clear photos Nathan. I have only driven through Colorado one time at night, so I have missed all the beauty there. Your excellent photos of Colorado always tug at me to plan a trip to see the beauty there first hand.

Thanks my friend!

Phil

Thanks Preston. I wish I had a different lens with me so I could have captured more of the landscape too. It was amazing how blue and clear the sky was up there.

Thanks so much Phil. Hopefully someday you can make it out this way and we can hang out up there together. And I still hope to get out there too.

Is it the hotel or the depot on the National Register? Love the blue sky of the Rocky Mountain states.

wow all these beautiful photos make me want to go fill up my backpack and just go somewhere.

Not exactly wilderness, but this is the beautiful town of Lambertville, NJ (well, it's the Delware river and the bridge that connects Lambertville to New Hope, PA). Shot from the top of Goat Hill Overlook, which is only about 5 min drive from our home and only 10 minutes walk up from the parking lot.
