I saw this thread resurrect itself and the hair on the back of my neck stood up :eek:. I scrolled down the last page to see who... nea, what had brought forth the courage to mention the name that dare not be spoken for ages. So not to chance that the barest hint of the name would find its way to those dark, dank, and yes, smelly caverns beneath S. Florida and summon forth... THE DUCK :eek::eek:!!!

Now I find that said fowl has risen on his own to lurk among us yet again... beware gentle formites, for the DUCK <er... Sayoc01> is speedy and lusts for DOTDs. He takes no prisoners... unless you happen to be a one-legged dancing girl...

Welcome back sir... it has been too long. Congrats on your upcoming retirement :D!!
 
:o It was my fault, AC. I forgot.
Not only did i speaketh the unutterable, i poked it with a stick and then blew the dust off both threads to put them on the library shelf. At the time i heard a distant BWaaaaaaaaaaah!, but at the time i thought it was one of my own animals having some bad gas. I only realise now what i'd done.

I'm one of the newbies that has been learning about you in your earlier incarnation (jim l clifton). Glad to see that you're back and ready to fan the flames again. Do you have a favorite kami that you're targeting this time? After reading some of your archived rant...er insightful posts, I think I could use some guidance and protection. I assume you're still handing out Ks after Researching them as proof of the non-existence of HIKV and here am I a shivering and quaking newbie without a Durba. I think a Durba YCS would be just the ticket.

This has made me realize that I've only seen the tip of the iceberg. I look forward to trying to catch up on you and all the other longtime forumites. Nepal Ho.

Just trying to relive some of those thrilling days of yesteryear. Besides, I wanted to see if he had gotten over his Durba fascination. I'm way behind you guys but I'm having a great time trying to catch up.

Stick my friend... you got it a bit backwards. Let me fill you in before you are charmed out of your khuk collection. THE DUCK doesn't <cough> research khuks, then give them out to deserving formites (or acolytes as the case might be). He will charm you out of your hard earned khuk in the "name" of research... never to be seen again. He has a very large, well guarded and boobie-trapped vault in his lair where he keeps all of his, um.. donations.

Beware the DUCK!!!
 
Thanks for completing my info AC. I've been reading through the Archives and heard him asking for donations for his Research only to turn the other way and say that he gives his Ks away to deserving others after Research to prove that he doesn't have HIKV. Phrases like "I have two Ks and need no more" come to mind. I just haven't gotten to the part where the light is allowed into the cave and the truth is revealed, I guess.

I'm reading in June '01 now. You and your dad were relatively new members around then with your dad being sequestered to the cellar and you were dealing with pups. It is great reading and was surprised to see jim l clifton is still around in his guise as THE DUCK.

Your warning is duly noted and I will steel my resolve to ignore his quack and fury and keep my Ks from his feather lined cave.

Tsimi, er DUCK, from what I can see you have had some slings and arrows sent in your direction. It appears that you also gave as good as you got, perhaps even using it as a feint to distract attention from the DOTDs so that you could scarf up even more Durbas. As I said I'm just now learning about this "Phantom" thing - I'm more familiar with your pre-Phantom posts where your story kept changing about your not having HIKV to the total denial of its existence. The number of Ks seemed to keep changing, too, getting lower and lower whilst you kept grabbing DOTDs and calling in orders for more. How many do you have now, still just2? I must say that the "Research" angle was a bit of genius. I can't wait to see how you manage to obfuscate...er...illuminate the masses with your published conclusions.

On your retirement-Congratulations. Does this mean that the cave will be abandoned and the bats allowed to recover from their mutated state? Where will the "nice ladies of the evening" go to meet? Will the top hat and cape of the Researcher be retired or is that how Koz is going to recognize you at Blade? The most important question for we at the forum is whether the DOTDs will be safe or are you lying in wait for the new kamis to show their work and begin another frenzy of collecting from your new kami of choice? Inquiring minds want to know.

Of course I'm on your side and the side of those SILVER TONGUED DEVILS, too. We are pretty much in the same boat sitting around at night choosing which K needs fondled, polished or brought out to do battle against vegetation. The finding of tasks for comparison of my blades is daunting. Neighbors continually refuse my assistance in trimming their trees or shrubberies, most I don't get to talk to as their dogs run out to keep me away. But the worst is that you've played Durba up to be THE BEST and there are not Durbas to be had. I can't do any good comparison without a Durba, can I? All I ask of a kind, misunderstood old man is that when he is ready to part with his Durbas, he may realize the anguish he has caused in his attempts to own every Durba and make them available to we less fortunate, caveless, Durbaless would be Researchers.

"Little stickfred will go to bed Durbaless again tonight. In a world where we have so much and others so little, can't you help? A meager YCS or GS by this DUCK-blessed kami and he can hold his head up once again. Won't you help?"

I worked for a guy like that. He would take a firm stand on all sides of an issue.

And, while I appreciate your attempts to guile THE DUCK out of a Durba, you should be advised that it was his grip on his khukuris that first inspired the concept of a vise for wood-working. (yes, he's THAT old.)

Kis, I knew that wasn't going to sound right. I got caught up in getting an answer out to THE DUCK. I rolled with it 'cause I'm sure all of you are good people and I don't want to take a stand when I know I don't have all the info. I knew I never had a chance of gettin' a Durba from Tsimi (that bit about the vise was good, though, and proved true by his response). I can see where jim has done some good: keeping Durba busy and making a living in jim's efforts to fill the Cave of Research, fine tuning (along w/Koz) the sharking skills of other forumites in an effort to get a DOTD and even in extolling K Research. There is a negative side too. Did he never admit to suffering from HIKV? He's the most obvious sufferer/carrier that I've seen in the threads. Everyone was right to try to get him to face the truth and move away from that Egyptian river - DNile. Now, others who follow in the wake of his example can't do proper Research without a Durba. Murali may make a better K as far as I know. Yes, this kindly, old, harmless Researcher has unleashed a strain of HIKV upon the HI faithful that is the worst yet - the insidious HIKV-D. After reading THE DUCK's posts regarding his Research, it is obvious that he was Researching K's and his own HIKV. I hope he has found a cure for himself. I hate to think of a gentle, old wizened figure walking from his Skunk Works in cape and top hat clanking of carried Ks but unsure which to reach for in his confused and fevered state. I can feel for the guy and I like Peking Duck.

The others that he refers to as SILVER TONGUED DEVILS have my admiration and respect for the compassion you've shown for another and the lengths you've gone to in alleviating his suffering. And it appears that the struggle continues. As the saying goes; No good deed goes unpunished...uh Every silver lining has a dark cloud...er um Don't fidget when I talk to you...oh well.
