Will there be a 2017 forum knife?

Hopefully there's a poll for handle material. I might be the odd one out here, but micarta on a TC sounds ... odd.

How about Ebony, or desert ironwood, or just about anything other than micarta. Nothing wrong with micarta, but everything seems wrong with a micarta TC.

oil sucker rod wood would look great... has only been used on a few knives...

Saw-cut Delrin! :D It's been around long enough to be considered traditional, right?

I'll vote in a poll, but I'll buy at least one no matter what.

a TC Barlow is sure to please. Not as creative as previous knives. But it certainly has become the traditional forum mascot. I like micarta but a run of one color will all look the same. Bone and wood offers some variation.

Hello everyone!
I have been keeping out of the discussion, because I wasn't sure if I wanted to do the knife again this year, especially since prices have been going up; and of course it takes up some time as well.
I have been kicking around a couple of ideas with GEC, and I have an idea that you might like, and that might work!!
Most everyone likes the TC Barlows that GEC produces for me, and many have asked for alternate handles which I stubbornly have refused to do. Traditional only is my mantra!
I propose this:
We do a TC Barlow for the forum knife! No royalties or anything else to me! Not my rules on handle materials either!! Maybe that infamous canvas micarta, or, or or. . . .????
Sheepfoot blades are the next in the rough plan I adhere to.
If I do my run at the same time, we both get economies of scale. The Forum knife will be cheaper than my bone-handled version. Correct me if wrong, but I think all the Sheepfoot Barlows to date have had long pulls, so let's do a crescent nick (also, less expensive) on this one.
What say you???????????

I am listening intently. 1095 covers??? itll be indestructible!

What I want to know is, when are we getting more anniversary charlows?!?!?!?! :D

More soup! More soup! More soup!

Of the many things I thought might be a candidate for the 2017 forum knife, I must say that a TC Barlow was not one I thought was in the realm of possibility! What a marvelous idea.

I was excited to see the sheepsfoot blade but I'm really bummed for the nail Nick. I prefer a long pull on something like a TC Barlow!

I'm in. I'll commit to 4 or 5 just to make this happen!! Well... especially since I kicked off this thread :)

The forum knife is one of a few that I committed myself to purchasing this year. Regardless of the pattern I really enjoy being a member here and the community the knife represents makes any design worth the purchase to me personally. Thank you again waynorth for offering both your time and experience to the project. To date my favorite traditional happens to have been a Natural Canvas Micarta Barlow, so I'll just say the mere idea of such a knife is beyond what I could have imagined

Very excited!

I would be willing to fork out a bit more cash to keep the long pull and bone handles, but will love it no matter what (unless we go with mawashi micarta scales or something) :)

Either way, we're lucky to have the same parties likely involved, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing what unfolds.

Thanks for all the positive feedback!! We can't possibly please everyone, but hopefully this would be a desirable/usable knife.
what about micarta handles? any more opinions?

Changing the stamped bolster to BF would be too expensive. It's a steel forging, so the die is very costly.
I looked at all my traditional Sheepfoot Barlows, and most are nicks vs. long pulls.
They look good with a nice drawn swedge like GEC can do. We've done the long pull a couple of times, so I thought the crescent would be a nice change. Yes?
A word of caution here; we still have to get "Spark's" permission. I will call him in the morning!

I'm ok with natural micarta, would really like to see bone though. either way I'm in for at least one.
