Will there be a 2017 forum knife?

Sounds great, Charlie. You are the savior of the Forum knife.

Charlie - I'd be okay with micarta, but I think it would really be nice with black picked bone like the old Remingtons.

Well, there's at least three of us... anybody else for something besides Micarta?

If we go micarta, I agree with many so far that a pale shade (white, ivory, bone, etc) may look the best. I would also be excited for something (color or material) that hasn't been done yet. Since it's a sheepsfoot blade - is wool micarta possible?

I'm in for 2017 BF knife, whatever the final form takes. Thanks Charlie for stepping up.

Well canvas is woven material and hessian or burlap are woven so why not a woven wool blanket material ? I kinda like the idea but I'd like to view some samples first. It could work i reckon.

I like micarta as a scale to help.keep the costs down...but if a wood alternative was available that wood
be just as cost effective, that wood be cool. Ironwood?

I've seen some nice houndstooth patterned micarta on some Fiddleback and bark river knives. The material is made by Shadetree, I believe.

A Barlow for a forum knife? A TC at that! I'll be down for two regardless of what it turns out to be. You can hold me to it! Need more Barlows to fill every pocket!

So far I've purchased every BFC forum knife since the 74 trapper (2012?) and will get one whenever one is made for that year with no hesitation.

Thank you to Charlie, Barry, and Spark for making the traditional forum knives possible these last years.

Charlie--that sounds exceptional! I'm sure whatever you and Bill Howard develop will be outstanding. Micarta sounds great, and I'm in no matter what.

I'm wondering--have you considered a Lambfoot? It could be seen as a thanks to Jack Black for all he has done concerning Sheffield history, and as a tribute to Sheffield little mesters, especially those who developed and refined the original Barlows.

As I wrote though, I'm in no matter what. You knocked it outta the park with this idea!

I love micarta. The right stuff would look lovely with the TC bolster, and I'm confident you'd choose the right stuff, Charlie.

Unless it's a particularly low-riding sheepsfoot, nick vs. pull seems like a largely aesthetic choice. From a practical standpoint, if I can pinch the blade open, that's what I do 99% of the time. But I do look the look of a long pull, so that's my preference there.

Charlie's generosity knows no bounds. Here is another TC that Charlie let Bill run without taking a commission:

MICARTA is an excellent idea for at least two reasons:

We haven't had a Micarta knife before (the 13 was synthetic delrin type no grain) and it's pleasing to have some new aspect to Forum Knives.

Secondly, it's VERY tough workhorse stuff which is in the spirit of the Barlow's proletarian origins. It might keep the cost down and offer ease of manufacture.

As to the type, well a sawn Micarta would look interesting but it might pose finishing problems. Personally, I'd prefer some kind of polished or sealed version rather than the matte unfinished-you can always rough yours up if you don't like it! Colour? Well Natural always looks good but Green , Burgundy are fine and I don't think we've had a Forum Knife in Green or Red before....Ivory is very good but I think the buffing&finishing of it can cause headaches.

Will it be all steel or brass? I know which I prefer....

If the bolsters are made from something other than non-stainless steel, I might be in.

I don't believe any TC or NF Barlows have ever been made with stainless bolsters or blades, so you're in!

I've never owned a knife made with Micarta before so it sound's great to me. Of all the exsamples I've seen the Natural Micarta really looks cool IMHO.
