Will there be a 2017 forum knife?

It took 151 replies to this thread for me to finally feel like I should type instead of read! Charlie, if you are up to this, you certainly have my vote and my admiration for making such a terrific suggestion! :D

Hello everyone!
I have been keeping out of the discussion, because I wasn't sure if I wanted to do the knife again this year, especially since prices have been going up; and of course it takes up some time as well.
I have been kicking around a couple of ideas with GEC, and I have an idea that you might like, and that might work!!
Most everyone likes the TC Barlows that GEC produces for me, and many have asked for alternate handles which I stubbornly have refused to do. Traditional only is my mantra!
I propose this:
We do a TC Barlow for the forum knife! No royalties or anything else to me! Not my rules on handle materials either!! Maybe that infamous canvas micarta, or, or or. . . .????
Sheepfoot blades are the next in the rough plan I adhere to.
If I do my run at the same time, we both get economies of scale. The Forum knife will be cheaper than my bone-handled version. Correct me if wrong, but I think all the Sheepfoot Barlows to date have had long pulls, so let's do a crescent nick (also, less expensive) on this one.
What say you???????????

I'm In like Flynn!!!

Wonderful, I'm absolutely in!

Micarta sounds good, and I wouldn't even mind acrylic, though I doubt we could all agree on a color. :D

sheepsfoot barlow?
I'm in.
handle preference would be something not particularly fragile.
secondary blade would be gravy.

Can we have your likeness laser etched on the mark side scale Charlie? :D

If not, can we still get the secret compartment and decoder ring?:confused:;)

Well, I just talked to Charlie on the phone and he told me the 'likeness' is out, and the added expense of the SC and DR would put us over the desired $100 mark. Darn! I am disappointed!

OK, I'm over it. :D:D:D:D

So what about the ostrich bone?

Seriously, a single sheepfoot blade TC Barlow with canvas micarta covers would be very cool! The sheepfoot blade is a real workhorse, and we could have a vote on the color of canvas or possibly linen micarta covers, right?

I vote for Ivory Linen Micarta!!!!!

There... I said it.

Let's take a vote which are the most favorite flavors and whether or not GEC can add the ice cream.

Come to think of it an ice cream scoop would be kinda handy:o
Gotta say I'm not liking the direction this thread is heading.....
I'M LOVING IT.
with you all the way.

I like the Ivory Micarta suggestion. Maybe have a "BF" bolster stamp instead of the "TC" stamp.

I'm all for this. I vote for a bright, smooth bone scale, but am not picky. Given that the relationship with the manufacturer already exists, it's probably our best bet too.

I'd be excited and appreciative if someone could explore some options from across the pond for next year's knife though.

Edit: Just as excited about ivory micarta! I was sold at sheepsfoot barlow.

Boy, I travel for one little conference, and I miss the forum knife discussion!

That's okay, my main goal was just to avoid being the ...silly person... that stepped in it by opening the thread again. I learned my lesson.

I know I am not going to get my super-ideal-perfect-for-me-in-all-ways-unobtanium knife, and I am fine with that. And I want to avoid being the source of any ill-will related to the forum knife. But I really hope we can have a 2017 forum knife. I am excited that it sounds like Charlie might be able to get us a nice one. The TC Barlows are very nice looking (they wouldn't be my first choice, but my first, second, and third choices are all less popular, and Barlows are nice looking).

The long and the short of it is: I will buy one of whatever the forum knife is if we are lucky enough to get one.

I look forward to, and enjoy participating in the process, and hope there is a process to engage in, but the most important thing is having the tangible symbol of my involvement in this forum. The forum knife process is one of my favorite things on this site. I hope to engage in many more.

And maybe if I keep at it long enough I can get my whaler/elephant's toenail/sunfish and/or a sailor/rope knife... Oooh! And I also want a scout knife for Christmas Santa!

Sounds great Charlie thanks again to you and the usual suspects that have pulled this off in fine fashion in the past. Looking forward to seeing this one get sorted out. :D
