Winner Selected / jc57: "Thank You" Giveaway (In memory of "Smoky": 2003-2013)

no entry....my thoughts go out to you and dread the day I will face a similar situation

My Aussie Pasha sends his condolences.

If I come up lucky (and luck seems to be flipping me off lately), I promise it'll get work. I've wanted a 99 for a while.

Blues, This pic is so awesome, it make me laugh out loud and smile! You have my most sincere condolences.Someone on the forum has that quote from Will Rodgers. For me it is so true

“If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went.”

― Will Rogers

Elliott-I'm sorry for your loss. I know, as a dog owner/lover, that they are the best friends we can ever have. They give us their love and companionship unconditionally. Please don't consider this an entry, just wanted to express my sympathy for your loss.

Very sorry for your loss of Smoky.

He possessed beauty without vanity, strength without insolence; courage without ferocity; and all the virtues of man without his vices.
Lord Byron
His epitaph for his dog.

If truer words were ever spoken I don't know what they are...

...thank you all. I am humbled.

My condolences for your loss.
Not an entry. I think that knife should go to a 'dog person.' Someone who will carry it while walking his own best friend, maybe feel it in his pocket and think of you and Smoky.

Elliott,

I am sorry about the loss of Smoky, I know how I would feel if I lost my pal Bear and his partner in mischief Annie. They are both Border Collie mixes, and the advice to keep a Border busy or they will find something to do is very true, like eat a couch (cleaned up stuffing in the yard for days afterward ).

I think this is a nice tribute to Smoky, and I am sure the winner will think about him and their own dog(s) when carrying that nice Case.

Sincerely,
Griff

Here's my pal Bear a couple years ago. He's gotten whiter around the muzzle since then:

and Annie, monopolizing the couch they eventually ate:

I just wanted to say that a good dog becomes a member of the family and their passing can leave a large hole
I hope that you can focus on the good times that you had with him

So true. I've gotten to the point where I (mostly) no longer dwell on holding him in my arms as he breathed his last. (Those days are the worst.) Now I'm (mostly) able to focus on all the good days and trails we shared together.

Don't know if you guys can see it or not in the images...(it's pretty apparent in person, believe it or not)...but some years ago I bough a whetstone from Ragnar's Ragweed Forge and after it came I called my wife over to ask her if she saw anything unusual when she looked at the stone. She saw it right away and it has been known since as "Smoky's Stone".
When I purchased it I had not seen the stone that Ragnar was to ship.

I'm no good at giving condolences, but I'm sorry you lost your friend. Not an entry.

I have had to put down a number of dogs in my life. I always have them cremated and their ashes returned to me. That way they can come home with me one last time.

Not an entry, Elliot, just a note to say that I'm terribly sorry. I've had to say goodbye more times than I care to remember and it always wrecks me.

I was going to refrain from actually entering, but looked at the knife again and realized, "Shoot, I'd pocket that baby and use the snot out of it."

With a full heart.

Thanks for the chance, Elliott, and for so much more.

Smoky's remains reside atop my armoire where he can keep an eye on things.

Wow - that pic that Sarah quoted above is one of the best dog photos I've ever seen. The expression in his eyes...I would love to have met him.
